May. 20th, 2007 10:18 pmWe are at eat other's throats trying to agree upon a name for our baby boy due in September. (We had absolutely no problem agreeing on a girl's name and then found out we were having a boy - darn.) We've each gone through several books and websites and come up with separate lists of names for each of us to draw from. Nothing substantial has come from that. I have a name that I love that he totally hates (Harrison). He has a name he's really fond of (Hayden) but it's too trendy and gender neutral for me. Today, he pored over 8000 boys names and came up with a list of about 80. From that, I've nixed over half of them. Here are my favorites from his list.
Aidan (little fire) - love the name, but I'm way too afraid my kid will be one of 10 Aidan's in his class
Alden (old friend, wise protector)
Ansel (blessed, angel)
Eben (stone of help)
Emory/Emery (bravery & power, ruler of work)
Harris (home ruler) - I think he added this one as a consolation prize since he hates Harrison.
Holden (deep valley or kindly, gracious)
Keirnan (little dark one)
Nolan (chariot fighter, champion, famous and noble)
Teagan (little poet or attractive)
Tenneyson (son of Dennis) - Not that my husband's name is Dennis, but I like it anyway. Would need a nickname though, since it's long, and we can't think of any.
Wyndham (winda's water meadow) - Although, I much prefer Wynden over Wyndham. Either way, we like that the kid's nickname could be Wyn.
Okay, things to note...our last name is Close, and my husband's not too fond of alliteration or assonance. Plus, 3 out of 4 of the babies born in our group of friends all have names that start with a hard C/K sound, so we are trying to avoid that.
Please...offer as many suggestions as possible...

Holden
Nolan
Good luck!

Date: 2007-05-22 12:36 am (UTC)Alden (old friend, wise protector)- Nah.
Ansel (blessed, angel)- Nah.
Eben (stone of help)- Nah.
Emory/Emery (bravery & power, ruler of work)- Like it spelled the later... reminds me of the band, which I enjoy.
Harris (home ruler) - Like it.
Holden (deep valley or kindly, gracious)- Catcher in the Rye = bad association. Did not like that book.
Keirnan (little dark one)- Little dark one? Why not name the kid Demon?
Nolan (chariot fighter, champion, famous and noble)- Nice.
Teagan (little poet or attractive)- Cute, but girly.
Tenneyson (son of Dennis) - I think I'd spell it Tennison, or something.
Wyndham (winda's water meadow) - I don't hate it.
Cillian - Reminds me of Jillian.
Maxwell- Dog name.
Logan- Ugh.
Sorry I'm not very helpful. Different tastes, I suppose. Overall, Emery and Nolan get my votes.

Date: 2007-05-22 01:51 am (UTC)Aidan- Maybe its just me and where I grew up but i have NEVER in my 19 yrs of life seen or known anyone with this name and I actually have it as my Second favorite for a name for a boy if I have one. so this is my fave lol
Holden- i really like holden. but as fora specific reason, *shrugs * i just really like the way it sounds
Keirnan-this ones nice to. i had a friend in HS, his name was Kian, like key-on, and i always liked that too.
Teagan- like others have said, Teagan, or the way i like it is, tegan, i think of more for a girl though but still nice.
Tenneyson-I agree with spelling it different like another commented but its not bad either
Wyndham-I think this ones pretty awesome too. I like Wyn also for a nickname

Date: 2007-05-22 05:10 pm (UTC)Alden (old friend, wise protector) - it's okay, but I wouldn't use it myself. Don't know why though. But I *do* love the meaning!
Ansel (blessed, angel) - I really don't like that, doesn't sound that good if you pronounce it the way I do (but it might sound different when you do it, 'cause I'm Dutch :P)
Eben (stone of help) - it's okay, but makes me think of Eden, so I wouldn't use it for a boy.
Emory/Emery (bravery & power, ruler of work) - seems a little feminine...
Harris (home ruler) - I like Harrison much better!
Holden (deep valley or kindly, gracious) - I love this one! And Holden Close sounds great too, don't you think?
Keirnan (little dark one) - doubting about this one... I love Kiran/Kyran, but Keirnan just isn't something I'd use.
Nolan (chariot fighter, champion, famous and noble) - also among my favorite boys names, but I'm not really fond of the combination with your last name.
Teagan (little poet or attractive) - is that an unisex-name? Sounds like one... I like it, but I'd use it for a girl, I think.
Tenneyson (son of Dennis) - don't like it.
Wyndham (winda's water meadow) - nope, isn't working for me either. I'm just picky :P
Some names I like and which I think go well with your last name:
Fynn / Finn
Ja(y)den (is that popular in the US as well? It's not common in the Netherlands :P)
Julian
Nathan
Tristan
Hope that helps some!
And, just out of curiosity: may I ask what was the girls name you both agreed on?
