How do you guys compromise with your husbands/signifcant others on the naming of your children?
I have an uncommon name and I always lean towards those types of names.  Well my husband likes "plain" names
we are pregnant with our first child and its a boy....
he desperately wants Scott, so i said okay, though i would have NEVER chosen it myself but I thought I would be nice.
We agreed on a fun, funky middle name--- Seger (yes after Bob Seger)
So it will be Scott Seger K----z
:) fun
And the girls name when we have one will be yet another plain name to me, but it fits both of our families....
Samantha Rose

I have 2 other names in mind for future children.
Brennan Gabriel
Lara Rhiannon, or Lara Rhapsody, or Lara Anastasia (what do you think??)

but i defiantely get my picks for the next kids.... he got the first boy and girl, i get any others .... i shouldnt have agreed so quick to them haha

We don't comprimise. I push them out- I get to name them! If there was a name he absolutely hated, though, I wouldn't use it.

haha funny. we had a really hard time for a few months, in fact, we almost named the baby DIVORCE. haha. and our situation was a lot like the op's where i was more daring and creative and he was full of suggestions like...todd and stuff...but it just took name after name after name and disagreement after disagreement until we finally settled and it was so funny cuz we came up with a really hippy/natural name...and together!

ps i like scott seger a lot.

I carry the baby, I get to name it. He gets to veto any name he detests. He can throw names at me and try and persude me.. i want us to both be happy but i'd never give in to a name I didn't love. He has to do the compromising!
Just so happens we both adore the girls name Felcity. It's on my top 3, however i love Anabelle & Amelia just slightly more. Amelia is a bit too popular though, so it's:

Anabelle VS Felicity.

He really does love Felicity though, so I think we're going for that as I really can't decide which I love more.

i'm not married, but i've spent my whole life picking out the perfect names for my children, and i'm giving birth, so i'm naming them. end of story. i'll let them pick the middle names if they want.

and i just wanted to add that i LOVE the name lara rhiannon that you picked out. while samantha is a pretty name, lara rhiannon is spectacular. you should convince him to use that one, should you have a girl next time. lara rhapsody and lara anastasia are nice too, but still not quite as amazing as the lara rhiannon.

i like your boy's names, they may not be incredibly unusual, but they're good, easy to say, real names. good choice.

I guess I'm the only person who thinks a child that is created by two people should be named by both people. *shurgs*

I agree, but I think that names the mothers are slightly more interested than the fathers in the whole naming game. How many guys are there in this community?

I wouldn't use a name that my husband hated, but he is yet to come up with a viable suggestion. His only input thus far is 'Lazarus'.

I think the father's have just as much right to weigh in on the naming of the kids. If two people who are trying to make a life together cannot find a name they can both be happy with, then they are going to have a heck of a time with the many joint decisions that come with parenting down the road.

Luckily my husband and I have very similiar ideas about naming children, and already have more 1st and middle name combo's picked out than we will ever use!

Matthew Milton (turns three this month - only child so far, but we are expecting twins! Gender still unknown, so twin names are still unassigned.)
Michael Ryan
Tyler James

Amelia Jean
Kayley Michelle
Julissa (middle name still undecided, but perhaps Joy)

Example:
He loves Chelsea. It makes me want to vomit.

I love Charlotte (nn Charlie). He thinks it sounds snobby, which is exactly what I think of Chelsea.

So, I told him he can have a cat named Chelsea. And I get a dog named Charlie. I don't know what we'll do for the rest of our names, though. We can't afford that many pets. Haha.
