How about this ?
May. 16th, 2007 11:36 pmMy Husband and I plan on trying to conceive soon. He is Indian and I am white. I am looking for Indian names that are pretty much Americanized. This is not an Indian name, but is derived from one:
Nirelle (Nirel)- for a girl
I am looking for an Indian middle name for it. We should give the baby (when we are pregnant and I give birth) the father's first name as his or her middle name so it would be Nirelle Vikram and then another middle name and his last name (I am going to hyphenate my last name).
So- Nirelle Vikram ????? J. Any ideas on Indian names?
For a boy:
Maximillian Vikram ????? J.
Maxwell Vikram ????? J.
Any ideas?
I like names with meanings with those of sun, stars, gift, treasure... Any help would be great! His family speaks Marathi and are of the Hindu faith. Even to add in Scottish Gaelic (my family history) would be awesome too.
I LOVE the name Ewan...
Thanks!

Date: 2007-05-17 11:58 am (UTC)other ones that work for girls:
lila/leela (play, amusement; sanskrit)
nina (beautiful eyes, lovely-eyed; hindi)
nikita (earth, ganges)
nisha (night; sanskrit)
jaya (victory; sanskrit)
mina (fish; sanskrit)
sitara (star; hindi)
surya (sun; sanskrit)- this is actually the hindu god of son, so traditionally a boy's name, but i prefer it on girls.
for boys:
ash (can be short for ashok which means 'without sorrow' in sanskrit)
rohan (ascending; sanskrit)
arun/aaron (reddish brown; sanskrit)
navin (new; sanskrit)
i think those all sound good in english! i don't know about the U.S. but these are all fairly common over here, but we have a big british-asian/indian population.
i prefer maxwell to maximillian but i think indian names are so beautiful that i'd use one for the first name! good luck!

Yes- Vikram is a boys' name. Traditionally, you take the father's first name as the middle name for wife and any child. So- my mother-in-law is now Savita Ramesh, her sons Vikram Ramesh, Jaydeep Ramesh. My friend, Meghana Dilip (Dilip is her father). I did not take my husband's first name as my middle name since my middle name is a family middle name (my mom's middle name).
I REALLY love a lot of those names and appreciate the time you put into this.
I am out on sick leave- I had re-constructive ankle surgery- for the rest of the school year and summer and we plan on trying around Sept-Oct and I was just diagnosed with PCOS....
Keep the names coming and thank you! :)
