[identity profile] minga13.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
hey I'm new on here. I've always had a fascination with names, maybe because my name is very rare where I live. My name is Martyna Rozalia. It's of Polish origin. Martyna is said the same way as Martina. Rozalia was my great-grandmother's name, said Row-zah-lee-ah.
Names I like:

Girls: Rozalia, Zalia (zah-lee-ah), Xanthea, Reah (ray-ah), Kyanna, Ellyce, Nika

Boys: Thaddeus (my grandfather's name was Tadeusz, Thaddeus is the English equivalent), Leon, Josef, Keideci (kay-de-see)

As I'm a primary school teacher, my choice of names is going to be limited by the time I have children! :) Some interesting names I've come across while teaching so far that come to mind:

Girls: Avalon, Cherokee, Dakota, Sammy-Joe, Chance

Boys: Parliament, Airport, Brock, Rock, Tubby, Vanci-boy

My grandmother has a friend named Martina, and everyone calls her Martini. I've always thought it was a great name.

I don't know if I love or hate Airport and Parliament, it's almost as if their parents accidentally picked up a tourism map instead of a book on baby names. And I'll withhold judgement on Tubby because it seems more like a cruel baby nickname instead of a full name. However, I do love Avalon for a little girl, it's gorgeous, as is your middle name. Very romantic. :)

Zalia is a beautiful name! Is the emphasis placed on the Zah or the Lee? I also like Thaddeus.

Avalon and Cherokee are pretty, but Airport?!?! I think I'll name my next kid Bus Depot. :-P

Avalon is the Island of Apples from Arthurian legend, where Arthur was taken to be cured by Morgain. I think that was before the airport...

I am having trouble believing you about those boys names. Nothing personal, but it's much easier to accept the idea that you are making it up than that there are actual people called Tubby and Parliament out there!

(i don't actually think you're lying by the way. i just want to.)

I think Avalon is absolutley gorgeous. Those boys' names are just plain cruel, though. Airport? Parliament? Vanci-boy? And please tell me that Tubby was just a mean nickname...

Are those boys names (not yours, the ones you've seen in class) real names, or nicknames?

Airport? Parliament? and what sadistic person would name their child Tubby?

please tell me they're nicknames!
