Old naming practices in the South
I'm researching my genealogy and have been corresponding with a family member who sent me the following information. Apparently, in the 1700-early 1900s in the Southern United states, there was a standard naming system. It went like this:
First son: named after his paternal grandfather.
Second son: named after his maternal grandfather, often sticking on the mother's maiden name as a middle name.
Third son: named after the father's oldest brother
Fourth son: named after the father.
First daughter: named after the mother
Second daughter: named after her maternal grandmother
Third daughter: named after her paternal grandmother.
So, here's a fun thing: according to this guide, what would your children be named?
My names:
First son: Stephen John Verdier
Second son: Daniel Froehlich Verdier
Third Son: My husband has no brothers!
Fourth Son: James Martin Verdier
First daughter: Catherine Verdier
Second daughter: Rosemary Verdier
Third daughter: Donna Verdier
I like them all except Donna!

We hate cruises and all they stand for! Me, my husband and two friends are driving down from VA. We're staying at the Southwind motel which seems a little ghetto but its cheap!
We've been to Key West about seven or eight times and try to go at least once a year. We love it! I'm already hankering for the spicy green beans at the Meteor and Green Parrot.

That's such a fun roadtrip. I'm originally from MD and used to come down a few times a year. I finally asked myself "why not just move here?" and got a one-way ticket.

How could they get rid of the Meteor???? Where will I go for barbecue and spicy green beans?
Can you recommend some restaurants for us? We've been to most on Duval and if I have to eat at Margaritaville one more time, I might throw up.

If you want a Burger, I recommend Caroline's on Duval. Alonzo's, at the Mallory Square end of Duval, has the best happy hour food specials--half-priced drinks and appetizers (best steamed shrimp). Half shell raw bar, also in that area, is also very good. My favorite place for a sit-down dinner is El Meson de Pepe (Cuban) right off Mallory Square. Breakfasts, I'd say Blue Heaven in Bahama Village. Conch Repub. Seafood's jerk chicken tenders are the best. Jack Flat's (on Duval) is also good for appetizers and lunches. Origami (in Duval Square, near the 800 block) is the best sushi, IMO.

I'm currently at AU, and I will say: law school leaves a lot to be desired. Currently not loving it.

BTW, I dropped out of law school. I hated it and couldn't see spending the money on something that I didn't enjoy at. all.

Second Son: Keith Alonzo R.
Third Son: Joshua Patrick R.
Fourth Son: Christopher Adam R.
First Daughter: Amanda Dawn R.
Second Daughter: Teena Maria R.
Third Daughter: Nancy Anne R.
Lol. I'd feel sorry for my second son. Alonzo is actually a name given to my dad from his dad. It still makes me laugh after almost 19 years.

Second Son: Edward W.
Third Son: Joseph
Fourth Son: Adam Nicholas
First Daughter: Eleanor
Second Daughter: Louise
Third Daughter: Mary
I like all three girls' names (though I wouldn't name a kid after myself or Mary, which is also my sister's name and my mom's middle name), and mostly the male names, except Kenneth. I don't think I'd name a kid Adam, either. And Joseph, much as I love it, is a little too popular for me.

First daughter: Maya-Marie Jodi (ew no thanks, I don't want to burden any more children with my name. Maybe I'd shorten it to May)

Second Daughter: Gail Ann
Third Daughter: Doris Caroline (I would never use Gail Ann or Doris Caroline in a million years.)

Only boys I can name:
Marshal Bowling (I'm already thinking of using Bowling as a son's middle name, because I absolutely adore my mom's side of the family)
Girls:
Jewel Yvonne (Though my mom goes by Yvonne)
Wilma Jean (I've also been wanting to use Jean as a middle name, only cause I like how it sounds will you say it with a first name, Wilma Jean, Norma Jean, etc.)
Andddd, can't do the third girl.

It should be:
Harry Clark
Paige Elizabeth (Me!)
Jewel Yvonne
