If this has been done, tell me and I'll delete it!

Why did your parents chose your name? If you are a parent, why did you choose your child(ren)'s name(s)?

I was named after Anastasia Romanov because my mom is a huge history dork and is fascinated by the Romanovs. My middle name is Elizabeth because she wanted to stick to European royalty.

My parents were sure I was a boy. I was to be named Thomas Charles Jr. They realised as my father was at the stoplight in front of the hospital while my mother was in labour that they had no girls names chosen. The Dexy's Midnight Runners song "Come On Eileen" (which had just hit #1 two days previous) came on and my father said "My mother's name was Eileen" and so it was decided. The Katherine part is a mystery to me. Technically named after my grandmother, but only because of a song.

My name was inspired by the Bob Dylan song Sara, except my parents preferred the spelling with the silent h. I think it suits me-
"Sara, Sara,
So easy to look at, so hard to define...

Sara, oh Sara,
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow"

I chose my own middle names-
Rhiannon because it has Celtic heritage and my mum considered it for my first name.
Marilyn for Marilyn Monroe after first seeing Some Like it Hot lol.

Jessica is just a name that stuck in my mom's mind after browsing a baby names book. And considering it was an italian book, although she's american, I consider myself lucky. Then Ann is the same middle name as all of the women on my mom's side and Arline was my mom's mom.

My name is Kim Sabrina Jennifer Blanka ****
My parents named me Kim because they wanted something unique and 20 years ago that name was entirely uncommon in Germany.
Since it wasn't obvious whether Kim was a boy or a girl they had to give me at least one middle name to solve that problem.
They were, as you can see, quite happy about that because they had at least 3 other names in mind that they thought about giving me, so I ended up with 3 middle names.
I can live with Sabrina and Jennifer, but Blanka is the most horrible name I can imagine... my father thought it was pretty because it's Spanish for "blond" and I am blond, but... I'm just glad they decided to call me Kim, after all.
As far as I know it's now possible to name you child Kim without giving it a middle name that defines the gender in Germany.

That is so cool, I like Anastasia (along with Alexei & Tatiana) for that reason too. :)

Given first name, my parents just liked and agreed on it. Nothing very interesting, and I never liked it much anyway.

So eventually I chose a new name. I was on a hippy kick at the time and wanted something to go with that. So read through the list, and Sage was the one that really resonated with me.
I'm not much of a hippy now; but the connotations of nature & wisdom still appeal. And the straightforward slightly unisex aspect suits me.

My middle name is Clair. It was inspired by my cousin Claire, who my parents were/are fond of. But my father changed the spelling so it would be 'mine'. He had been aiming for the 'traditional English' spelling, but ended up with a French word. My parents clearly aren't all that name savy.
After years of getting that mangled (didn't even know quite how to spell it myself until I was 14) I have something a complex about creative spellings.
I've come to like the name itself though, and those eccentricities add to the charm. So shall stick with it. :)

My parents also thought I was gonna be a boy so they bought blue things for my nursery. :)

Anyways, I was named Christa after Christa McAuliffe who died a few years before I was born. Now that I think of it, maybe they thought of that since that name was close to my aunt's who was named Catherine.

Rosary is my second name since my grandmother is named Rosario. I was named after her, though I still wonder why they didn't name me Rose instead.

As far as I know, Deborah was just a name my parents liked, but Lynne is after my aunt/Godmother.

Funny story though: I have three older brothers, and my parents' girl name for them was always Victoria (Deborah was the "twin" name, just in case). Dad was always fine with that, until they were talking about my name, and it was _boysname_ or Victoria, and my Dad said "No, I don't like the name Victoria". Mom was like "What are you talking about?? That's always been our girl name!" But Dad said "Well, they were boys, so it didn't matter. This will be a girl so I want to pick a different name."

And so Deborah was chosen.

My parents just liked my name, meh.

So, I've made up the story myself; Elizabeth has been a name used in my grandmother's family for generations, combine that with Anna (my mom's first name) you get Lysanne. :p

My name is Katherine Anne. When my parents were trying to decide on my name, they sat down and thought about people who had an impact on their lives. Apparently, my mom had a teacher in grammar school named Sister Katherine, and she was a great influence on her. When my dad was growing up, he had an elderly neighbor named Katherine who became like a grandma to him, and he had many delightful memories of trips to the beach and the circus. They felt it was a strong name with many happy memories behind it, so they chose it for me!

Anne was chosen because, all of the women in my family have some version of "Anne" in their first or middle name.

I was named Sophie as my parents didn't know anyone with the name [it's now number 3 in popularity stats.. eh] They liked the meaning 'Wisdom' and that it was recognised in France.

My parents were going to name me Kimmie Diane after a modle (Kimmie) and my aunt (Diane).

But alas I am Joshua Joseph. Joshua because it is a liked name, Joseph because of family members being Josiah... Joshua Josiah just doesn't sound good... so we went Joshua Joseph... JJ.

But yeah, everyone in my family is named after someone with their middle names in the family (Edward (oldest brother named after my father), Aubrey (middle brother after my great grandfather) and their first names for outside poeple my parents knew (Anthony (oldest brother after someone my mum went to college with), Nicholas (middle brother after a boy they met wtih cancer who was brilliant)...

As for your names.. ohh I adore the Romanovs!! One of my twin boys is getting Aleksei after the youngest Romanov... and if I do eventually have a second girl she will have the name Anastasia after little Anya! (and I'm done being a dork now! haha!)

My parents are just like your mom! :P They gave me the name of Paola Ysabel. Paola, they took it from a Spanish queen. Ysabel, from an Italian queen. Or some prominent royal. :)

I love your name! :D

I haven't the foggiest idea where they found my name. All my siblings have nice, normal Italian or French names and then there is me, the weirdo. My middle name is French though.

With my son, we picked Leo because I've loved it forever. It was going to be Leonardo, but it seems to heavy for a person. Nicolas, his middle name, is the French spelling and after several people in my family.

my name is Aubrey Clare Elana

Aubrey is from the song of the same name by Bread. Also, they liked that it was unisex so that on resumes and such I wouldn't get discounted immediately for being a woman (that's what my mom told me anyway).

Clare is after my grandmother's father Clarence.

Elana was so I'd have the same initials as my dad's father who was Albert Charles Edward.

Oh! I kind of like to tell this story.

My mom was convinced she was going to name me Ginnaveve[Jenna-vev]
Well, my older sister was not going to have it! She threatened my mom, "I will call her baby girl if you name her that! I will not call her by her name!" So, basically, my sister picked out my name: Samantha.

As for my middle name, Spring, I was supposed to be born on the first day of spring, but my mom swelled up like a ball and decided to have me Thursday the 12 - not Friday the 13 ;D

I'm Hannah Maree.

Maree is a family middle name, and the spelling, while still a recognized form of Maree, is also a family tradition.

I was supposed to be Shawna, Shanna, or Cheyenne (or something else weird and Sh-y) but when my dad held me he said that I "looked like a Hannah" and that's what I got. Which always struck me as kinda weird, just pulling a name out of nowhere because my blobby little baby shape looked like a Hannah, but I like the name better than the others, so I'm cool with it.

Mine is far less interesting than those above! My mom considered the name Tara but decided not uncase I became "a 6-ft-tall football player girl" She watched the Young and the Restless and chose a name of a strong woman. Lauren [phenmore] and somehow, she liked the name Rachel. I was going to be Rachel Lauren, but she thought the L's were too close for yelling, lol. (Turns out my hubby was named after soap characters too, that was interesting to find out after we were married and had a kid!)

However, naming my kid... I always loved the name Elizabeth. Hubby did not. We were reading through a name book and chose Lily (though we chose Lilly) I was pulling for Lillith, so she could CHOOSE Lilly as a nickname. And then Kathleen for our friend (that hooks us up at the Golden Corral) so Lilly Kathleen. Also known as Lil Butts (yes, our last name is butts. that made names 100000000000 times harder)

Aye I went to school wtiha Lauren Butts and it was hilarious when we had a sub... She would ask everyone their names and Lauren would give it to her, and the teacher would ALWAYS ask her if she was joking... Happened in JR english with a sub wanting to write her name on the board... oh it was hilarious.

But I do feel for you, I'd never know how to name my child with that last name.

My name is Rebekah Lee.

Rebekah came from the bible in my mom's room at the hospital. My parents both liked the name and decided to spell it that way because that's how it's spelled in the bible plus they didn't like the "Rebecca" spelling. Lee was just a name they decided on because they didn't want to give me Marie or Lynn as a middle name because they thought those were too common. I'm pretty lucky to have a name, i guess because I went the first four days of my life just known as "Baby Girl" because my parents couldn't decide on a name!

I don't know what I'm having yet so I guess I can't really comment on naming my kids. ;) I'll find out what it is on May 15th, so check back with me then! hehe

My parents argued for about six weeks after I was born as to what to name me, and the final choices were Ruth and Helen. For some reason, they went for the entirely wrong choice of Ruth, sigh. They didn't even think to give me Helen as a middle name - possibly because my mum doesn't have a middle name, although my dad does.

And as I'm only seventeen, and still in school and want to go to University, it's entirely a good thing that I don't have children of my own.

Ooh, Anastasia, that's pretty. My name is Catherine Elizabeth. Elizabeth is my maternal grandmother's name, and Catherine is just a 'C' saint name. I'm the oldest, but they did that for my three siblings- 'C' saint names, and a grandparent's first name for the middle name. ((Except for my youngest brother, who has a 'T' name, but thats a different, kinda long story...))

I was the only child in the family not named after another family member. I was named after a paper doll that my mom had as a child. Yes, a paper doll.

My name is Kelli Nicole. If I had been a boy, my name would have been Brandon Shane.
