[identity profile] child-of-eru.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Well, 'lo all, I am new here, like many of the recent posters. My name is Catherine Elizabeth. I am not planning on having children anytime soon, but I am a writer ((or so I would like to think)) and I am always looking for name ideas for characters and such.

I do know that when I have kids I would like them to have my parents' names as their middle names, something my parents did with my siblings and I by giving us each one of our grandparents first names as a middle name. So my immediate choice for a boy would be: Iain Michael or Corben Michael. Girl: Elizabeth Jane. ((I have had a hard time coming up with a name I like in front of Jane, so if there are any suggestions...))

I will lj-cut my list of other names I like and/or have used in my stories:

Girls:
Verity
Phoenix
Cailan
Cadence
Constance
Ciara
Siri

Boys:
Marcus
Carson
Mercer
Eryx
Alastair
Fletcher
Grey
Ciaran
Walker

Either:
Kade
Cael
Tayce
Shea
Edan

I would love your opinions.

I'm a writer, too, and I do the same thing. I tend to write fantasy and science fiction, and I like using real, but unusual names for most of my characters.

I try to think of meanings that would fit with the character and then see what names have that meaning....then choose one of those (babynames.com is good for that)

That and sometimes I end up stealing friends' names and messing with them ;)

Commenting since you have my mother's name and got it almost the same way she did!

My name is Meredith Catherine. As I said my mother is Catherine Elizabeth-- she was named after her grandmothers, Catherine and Elizabeth. Her sister, Margaret Mary 'Peggy' was named after their mother. One of her brothers is named after her father. Anywho, my mother gave me her first name as my middle name and my first after a friend of hers.

I want to do something similar and have come up with a few different choices. With our first daughter we ended up not naming her after anyone(well, turned out her second first name was my fiance's great-grandmother's name), but we had the idea of using the name Edith Catrine- naming her after me in a round about way, and I love Eliza-- a variant of Elizabeth. Now that I've had more time to think about it, I still like Eliza but not sure about Edith Catrine. Also, I'm more thinking I'd like Eliza to be short for Elizabeth than a name on it's own. We may also use Edward as a mn for a son, which is also my fiance's mn. And we like Jonah, which is similar to my grandfather John.

I love Elizabeth Jane, or Catherine Jane (Katie Jane..cute), but I don't like your other girl names. Of your boy names, I like and might use Ciaran and Grey(Grey more likely for a girl, though) and Alistair, but don't like the spelling on the last. I like Kade (prefer Cade) on a girl and Cael on a boy.

Hey i have a friend named Elizabeth Jane. Although it does not suit her at *all*, so we call her Ellie.
Actually a lot of my friends have Jane (or Jayne) as a middle name- just a weird coincidence.
they include-
Rachel Jayne
Clarissa Jane
Nicola Jayne
Hannah Jane
(one of these is me =D)
