[identity profile] supertrink.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello, another newbie here. I joined more to comment on other's posts than to post myself, but I do have a question for you all.

I love the name Zephyr. I know that it is a boy's name (from the Greek god Zephyros, god of the west wind), but I think it could be really pretty as a girl's name.

So what do you think? Boy's name only? Girl's name? Both? Neither?

Thanks.

Neither. Maybe a good name for a pet though.

I know... if my parents named me Zephyr, I'd have problems with them.

I agree with both of you!

It would be a nice middle name, actually, because it would be unique. I remember in first grade all of us girls realized that almost all of them had the middle name Ann(e), Marie, or Lynn - I was the only one with Christine :). And it's something you really like so it has something there, it's not something you randomly picked, you know?

I AGREE! Mostly because my middle name is Lynne, and my sisters' are Nicole, Anne, and Marie. Ugh.

Rose is another common middle name. I got stuck with that.

Well,

personally I prefer Zephyros, and as a girl's name.
But if you're not an eccentric namer, I think it could work with a S. Sephyros, for a girl. Actually, I don't know.

I really prefer it as the full thing. Probably because I associate Zephyr with a Red Hot Chili Peppers song...
It's a beautiful name, though.

I have known one girl named Zephyr, and she was half Greek. A friend of mine once wrote a story with a girl named Zephyr, and years later, having lost touch with the author-friend, the character's nickname ended up being used on the girl I knew as well: Zee.

I like it for girls...it just sounds feminine to me.

In all honesty, ANY name can be used as a girl's name nowadays. And just the opposite though usually more true with the first.

The name Zephyr in modern day is more of a "hippy-ish" name and probably better suited for a middle name if only to save the "mommy I hate you because you named me this" problem ;)

I'm a huge Greek history and mythology buff so it's kinda funny that I found this entry.

My old babysitter is a family friend. Well, our two families are friends, rather. Anyway, her cousin was having a baby and their last name is Nation.

"One" and "Liberty" were the front-runners for the name (a girl) and everyone finally managed to talk them out of it. So they wanted an XYZ name (something weird starting with one of those letters).

So I stupidly opened my mouth and said "Shannon." and then spelled the actual spelling. Xiannon. Which is actually more pronounced "Zhannon" but yeah. O__o and they went with that. I mean, the girl is now in Kindergarten and I can just see her teacher being like "Billy? Katie? X... uh... O.o"

My boyfriend has already declared that if we get married and have kids, the first boy MUST be named Percival Blakeny. He wants to call him Percy. I said "No, we could call him Blake AND I would get all say over any other children."

I like the names Tristan and Brennan for a boy. Amaris for a girl but probably as a middle name.

I'm not a huge fan of the name, but I see it as moe feminine than masculine.

I've always assumed it was a female's name. I'm Greek and I've met two girls named Zephyr. Never even thought of it as a boy's name.

My cousin's (a boy) name is Zephyr.
And his sisters name is Zela.
I think both names are really beautiful.
I love Zephyr as a girl name, i'd never thought of that.

Cute for a cat.

Bad for a baby.
