NAMES <3

I am such a fan of baby names! I love thinking of them and, though there's no possibility of me having children any time soon, I have a few picked out that have stood the test of time - meaning I've liked them for years. I tend to like different names, not necessarily ones that are terribly unusual, just names that aren't common...unique might be a good way to describe them. My name is Hawaiian [Kaila] and though its technically pronounced "Ky-la", I used to correct everyone when I was a wee tot and tell them that it was "Kayla"...so that is what I have always gone by. I kind of regret that now because "Ky-la" sounds so pretty and unique! But oh well, that's where my children's names will come in...I won't let them tell me how they're pronounced, gosh darnit, lol! I guess it's kind of a good thing, though, that I "corrected" it because my brother's name is Kyle and it would just be weird to have "Ky-la" and Kyle, in my opinion :p

Anyway, these are some of my favorite boy/girl names - thoughts?

GIRL:
Meredith Lee [my middle name is Lee & I know Meredith is old fashioned but I just LOVE it]
Mailie/Mailee Annette [said "My-lee", its actually Hawaiian, too, for some kind of flower they use in weddings - & my mom's middle name is Annette, I really like it for a middle name]
Leila Noelle
Evelyn Lee [another old fashioned but I've always loved it, too]

BOY:
Preston Lee
Brett Addison
Rylan [not sure about a middle name...]
Jayden [^ditto that^]

I'm not too keen on boy names, it's really hard for me to think of/find ones that I like. I just don't dig your "typical" boy names: Joshua, Matthew, Andrew, etc. I'm also really big on using either family members names or middle names AS my children's middle names...so some of these are, of course, subject to change when I eventually get married. I'd like to use to dad's name, Steven, as a middle name for a boy but it sounds funny with Rylan/Jayden, their sounds clash.

Anyway, that's about it for now - thanks for reading! :]

I actually like all of your girl names -- my favorites are Meredith and Evelyn. I really dislike Rylan as a boys name; it just sounds like another made-up trend name, to be honest. I do love Brett Addison, though, and Preston Lee isn't half bad.

I just put my finger on what bugs me about Rylan. It's Ryan with an l. I really hate it when people try to take a popular name and make it less popular by misspelling it or adding superfluous letters. All that does is guarantee a lifetime of frustration for your kid as he constantly gets called the wrong name, and an insanely popular one to boot.

I just think it's weird that you threw that one in there because all your other choices were so normal in a really kick-ass way, if that makes sense.

I do like this, but prefer the traditional spelling maile. (But were you changing the spelling hoping that would make it easier for English-speakers, so they didn't say "mail"?)

Maile's not a flower, but a vine with shiny green leaves. It's very traditional in leis. In fact, my husband's grandparents brought us each a lei when they came out from Hawai'i to attend our wedding, and his was maile.

Noelani is pretty, I agree! I've also thought that Melia (meaning plumeria flower) would work nicely as a middle name without being too confusing. (As a middle name, you would probably have to worry less about people confusing it for Malia or Amelia.)

I like Rylan. It's different and people who will call him the wrong name just prove that the world always thinks inside the box and that people always have to be fixed on what is "regular" according to society's standards. Dare to be different, not trendy, but different! Kudos!

I love Meredith & Jayden..

When my boyfriend & I decide to have kids, I really want to keep both of our middle names in the family.. (Lynn & Jay) So, my favorites right now are Jayden for a boy and Kaelyn for a girl.

Evelyn nd Jayden are far from unique.. give kids those names and they'll share them with half their class.
