Contrary to popular opinion in this community, one's name is not the parents, it belongs to the person who's name it is. You are the one who has to answer and be introduced by your name, not your father.

I changed my name about a year ago and although it was hard for my parents at first, once I explained to them how I felt about my name and appriciated their respecting my choice, they understood. They still slip up sometimes (because they're old) but they know that my name is very important to me.

Changing your name is not disrespectful to your parents, your parents not respecting your life choices is disrespectful to you.

I want to try to find a way to incorperate my old name as a part of my past in there but I haven't figured out how yet since I already was born with 3 middle names :X
