A poll of names that are feature in Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind. Check the ones you like, I've put characters' nicknames in parentheses. These aren't all the names in the book, just the ones of characters that appear most frequently.

[Poll #954659]

I have always loved the name Rhett and when I was younger, I was set on naming my future son that, but alas, my husband HATES it :(

As a whole, I think society has stepped away from Ashley as a boy's name...anyone know of anyone who has actually named their son this in recent years? I wonder...

Re: Dilcey - Makes me think of Dicey Tillerman, protagonist of one of my favorite YA series... :-D

Some of those are really good...
I like Beatrice, but prefer Beatrix.
And Belle, but prefer Bella.
I like Prissy as a nn for Priscilla.
Some of the other girl ones are pretty.
For guys I especially like the sounds of Wade, Raiford, Beauregard and LaFayette, though a few others like Hugh are nice too.

After Christmas, I was reading GWTW for the five millionth time...laying next to my fiancee in bed...and I blurted out, "What do you think of the name Raif? As in, Raiford?" He's an Alabama boy so he agreed that it was a strong southern name. I really love that name now but I'm probably nuts. I'm the lady who named my cats Melanie (Miss Mellie) and Ashley. LOL
