Trendy and/or popular names don't really scare me away. I think that there are just as many disadvantages to having an unpopular name as there are to having a popular name.

Also, according to Behind the Name (http://www.behindthename.com/php/view.php?name=gianna), Gianna is a short form of Giovanna.
