I once knew a girl named Gidchen. I think it's German (or Swedish or something) for "sweetheart."

What do you think?

How would you pronounce that?
(I'm not a native English speaker...)

-chen is a common diminutive ending in German, so it's plausible as a German word. Can't tell you any more than that as I don't know any Swedish ;)

Possibly fine if you're German. Sounds ridiculous in English speaking countries. Like someone mentioned, it sounds like Kitchen (the way you are pronouncing it, which I have to point out isn't German pronunciation).

If you're German, it would sound more like Hid-ken, with the beginning of Hid involving a sound of almost like clearing your throat. I can't explain it if you're not familiar with it. That's the closest description I can come up with.

If it's Swedish, it's another pronunciation entirely. I'm not familiar enough with Swedish to tell you how it would be pronounced in that language.
