.. I don't really think so. I've heard it's actually pretty common in Croatia. Behind the name says it's a Croatian, Serbian or Slovene form of Mariana. One of my best friends growing up was named Marijana, and she was from Croatia, so maybe I'm just used to it.
I can see making fun of the oh=so=yooonEEK names, but ethnic variations on names, I don't much get the point of.
I'm pretty sure in Croatia, pot isn't called marijuana, so it's probably pretty normal there.
No, no, I know it's Croatian, she's very proud about her heritage. I hope you don't think I'm xenophobic or anything; and she does say it, "Mary-anna".
It's just, it doesn't seem a very suitable name in a country where people's first thoughts won't be, "Oh, what a lovely Croatian name!"
Well is that her fault for having a lovely Croatian name, or immature people who can't get their heads out of their arses long enough to realize that?
And despite what most people think, my friend didn't get the whole MARIJUANA HAR HAR thing until she was in high school, and by then it was the immature dorks who everybody rolled their eyes at anyways.
Exactly my point. People don't grow up for a long, long time. I'm definitely not one of those people, mind you, I just thought I'd share the name.
It isn't a favourite of mine, but it is nice. I just wish people would grow up a little and wouldn't poke fun at a name, no matter what it may remind a person of.
No... I was only sharing it. It'd be absolutely lovely in Croatia, because the initial thought wouldn't be the obvious, it'd be more like, "Oh, such a nice name," whereas where I live, that isn't the first thought.
I just meant it mean as in, mean to name your kid that in such a society as ours.

I just thought the parents (who moved here from Croatia) would consider a less tease-worthy name.
