Two things:

1. I am writing a piece of fiction and I need to know what the nickname Missy could be short for? Anyone have any ideas?

2. I ran into a lady who works in my building that I am friendly with. She has popped out pregnant so fast! It's nuts. She told me their name for their son, who will be born in June:

Anchor

... YES. Like, the thing on the ship.

Let me know what you think!

My cousin is Melissa but everyone calls her Missy...i've also known a Michelle who was called Missy...and since I'm from the south, I also know a few people are actually named Missy

and Anchor??? I'm a US Navy veteran but I would NOT use that as a name...that's just me though...

I've heard Missy as a nickname for Melissa too. I guess it could also be a nickname for Marissa or Marisa.

Anchor is interesting. I think it's kind of funny, I'm picturing a person that looks like an anchor. There are worse names.

I'm not a fan of the name Anchor. Some words should be kept as words, not transformed into names.

Normally Missy is short for Melissa, but it could probably be for "Litle Missy" and one of those nicknames that's not really short for a name, like Buddy or Sis.

Normally I have known Missy as being short for Melissa. However, my name is Emily and my grandpa always called me Missy, and I know a few other people called Missy who's names aren't even close. I agree with the person who said it doesn't have to be a nn for anything really.

it's usually short for mellissa. but if you want a weird name for like a book character or something then i dunno misty or Mistique like the xman character haha anything with a Miss" at the beginning would probably work.

Missy

Missy could be short for a lot of M names- Miriam, Margaret, Matilda, Marcella, in addition to the Melissa, Michelle etc. that other people have said.

1. Really, it could be anything. You could have some backstory, maybe her family just likes weird nicknames. I've heard it the most for Melissa, though.

2. Anchor is absolutely horrendous.
