I personally dont like Ashley on a boy. I dont like the name in general..way to common. But I have heard of it ona boy before. I like Abigail Paige. Cute.

I know..I wish I could have a baby..but being a lesbian it makes it alot harder.

Ashdon is fine for a boy, but not Ashley

I like Ashley better on a boy than on a girl

[identity profile] trissyd.livejournal.com 2007-02-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
agreed.
It was a boys name first... it bugs me when people just assume because so many girls have the name that it's a girls name!

I do too. Shannon and Kelly too.

Meredith's the only former boys name I can think of off the top of my head that I prefer on a girl.

I agree. There are boy/girl names that are very common on girls that I prefer on boys but hate on girls-- Ashley and Tracy being my top two. I really don't care for Shannon either way. And I too like Meredith better on girls, but that might be because I've been hearing it all my life. ;) We've actually toyed with the notion of giving it to a son as a middle name or second middle name.

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_%28name%29): In the United Kingdom Ashley is a unisex name, with females generally receiving the Ashleigh spelling. On the other side of the Atlantic, the name is still occasionally used for boys in the South, in part thanks to Ashley Wilkes' character from Gone with the Wind.

Congrats to them.

Ashley David is a great name.

Ashley is very Gone With The Wind. If you're old fashioned, as i am, it may or may not fit your tastes. i personally like it better as a boy's name.

I like Ashley on a boy, prefer it on a boy too. I despise the name Abigail though.

i like the name ashley better for a boy. i also pefer my name, Courtney, as a boys name. and kelly. i am kind of on the fence about the name shannon. i think i just dislike it in general.

[identity profile] mrs-tobe.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I'm a Courtney too, and I prefer it on a boy. I love Ashley on a boy...it's my husband's name.

It's okay on a boy, but I think the name as become so feminized that it could cause "issues", I guess. But he has a great middle name to go by if he wants, and they can always call him Ash or Asher, which are more "masculine".

feminine.. = fiancee

I actually love the name!! David is what we would have named our daughter had she been a boy and might still be our hypothetical future son's name and I love, love, love Ashely on a boy, would probably go with the nn 'Ash' if it were a first name. I hate Ashely on girls.

Abigail Paige is okay. Not super-fond of Abigial.. it's weird for me, I used to love it. And it paired with Paige just has an odd ick-factor. maybe it's all the 'a's and 'i's. They're both names I like okay but would never use, could take or leave them.

Sorry, a little hyper from all the Jujyfruits I've been munching on.

Ashley will always be a boy's name to me. It's so masculine. Good on them, though he might have some trouble at school. If they use the nickname Ash, that's really masculine too, and I'd think he'd avoid such trouble.

I really really love Ashley for a boy, but I'd never use it cause I'd be scared of him getting teased. It's a great name, though, sad that it's so highly considered a girls name now :(
