I honestly don't care much about middle names, I think that's where you should put your guilty pleasures and such, so I'll applaud her. Frances is lovely.
I love old-fashioned names, and when I say that I don't mean OMG I luvvv oldfashioned names like Caitlin and Stephanie. I actually really like names like Anne and Martha and Lois and Doris and Edith and Alberta and Beatrice. Names even like Doris and Edith can be cute and piquante (Edie and Dory) but there is just no saving Frances. It will always make me think of a short, fat, frumpy woman, and all the nicknames are bad. Frannie, FANNY, Frankie...ugh.
My middle name is Frances... it's a tradition in our family - the oldest girl in each family has it - My great-grandmother was Mary Frances, my grandmother is Yvonne Frances, my Mum is Elisabeth Frances and I'm Cyndi Frances...
I don't love the name, but obviously it's grown on me over the years, and my first daughter will have it as her middle name too...
