Madison vs. Addison
Feb. 7th, 2007 10:30 amIt seems like Madison is a name that a LOT of people can agree they don't like... but then it also seems like half of the people who don't like Madison will say they like Addison. WTF? To me they are both really tacky... how can you like one but not the other? They're practically the same! I think Addison sounds even more boyish than Madison but I truly don't like either.

Date: 2007-02-07 05:28 pm (UTC)Addison, on the other hand, I just dislike. I HATEHATEHATEHATEWITHABURNINGPASSIONHATE Addison on a girl, but I think it looks nice on a male, but the only Addison I know is a raging asshole, so I could never personally use the name.
Plus once a boys name goes over to the
darkgirl's side, theres usually no getting it back any time soon.no subject

I know a Madysen.

Date: 2007-02-07 07:58 pm (UTC)I'm guessing that people like Addison more because they find it fresher, even though it's just as awful as Madison. And I'm sure the Grey's Anatomy character helps, I've never seen more than five minutes of the show but I've seen people say they like it because they love GA.

Date: 2007-02-07 09:44 pm (UTC)I knew an Addison in high school, a male, and I never liked his name. This was before the whole Madison thing (or at the beginning of the trend anyway, definitely before I knew lots of people were naming real children that) so even without the prior bias of Madison, Addison sounded girly to me. It just seemed a bit fancy and fussy for a boy's name. But at the same time, it sounds too masculine on a girl. I just don't like the name on anyone. I don't know why the one letter different letter to Madison makes it seem better to me, but it does. It's still way too common for me to remotely like it myself, but I can at least understand why it appeals to other people. It's popularity doesn't surprise me.
