A few weeks ago I posted that my friends named their child, Reddick.

Apparently, it's after JJ Reddick of DUKE college basketball.

er, why couldn't they call him JJ? Or name him what either of the Js stand for?

Exactly. JJ would have been much more 'normal' sounding.

I guess they wanted to be different but they didn't have much foresight that kid is going to get TEASED

That's funny. Because he spells his name Redick. =/

And he plays for the Orlando Magic now.

And he didn't deserve POY, by the way.

But by the time the kid is old enough for anyone to care, it won't matter probably.

Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't even know who he was if
a) I didn't practically live in Orlando
b) my boyfriend is obsessed with the Magic.

You would just think that if someone was going to name their kid after someone, they'd at least spell the name the same way...

I must be the only person who doesn't think Reddick is that bad of a name. It's seriously 10x better than a lot of the other names posted here.

Red dick?

Considering that I've only thought of it as "Reddick", yes, it's a fine name to me.

not everyone has the same associations/immaturities to a name.

Uh, k I guess I'm just immature then. You honestly don't think junior high aged kids are going to pick up on that because you didn't? It seems like most other commenters did.

But I guess it's not the worst either.

I'd rather scratch my eyes out with a fork then name my kid after a DUKE basketball player.

When I'm having children I'll look up their roster at the time and make sure to cross all those names off my list. Just on principle.
