This weekend we spent a lot of time talking about baby names. Here are some of the combos we came up with

Baby Girl T

Esther Kate
Helen Elisabeth
Elisabeth Kate

What are your thoughts on Helen and Esther as baby names? I personally love that they are classic and old fashioned. I think it gives them beauty and elegance.

My favorite Boy name at the moment is Carter...which I love with the middle name Luke or James. However I feel like its so trendy and today rather then classic which all my girls names are. Would Esther/Helen and Carter sound weird together?
Do you think your childrens names need to have similar backgrounds, orgins, sound, etc?

THANKS!

I just... can't picture a teenage girl going "Hi my name is Esther!" (nowadays)

I mean, it may be all classic and old fashioned. But i've rarely met any people who want to be known as classic and old fashioned, know what i mean?

I just asked 5 different people what they thought of the name Esther, and they all said if that was their name.. they would be doing everything they can to find a nickname or something else to be known as :/

Elisabeth is really nice though.

I've only ever known one Carter in my life.. he was an ass. HAH.
James Carter sounds nice, not the other way around though.

k, enough babbling from me. Taa~

My favorite combo from the group is Elisabeth Kate. I love Elisabeth with an S. Also, I like Elisabeth and Carter go great together.

I like Helen Elisabeth - but only b/c i love the nickname Leni. Which would make a young girl not feel like she has an "old" name.

Esther has always sounded awkward to me, but I do like some classic names. Helen is alright, if a little boring.

I really like Elisabeth Kate. I also think Helen Kate sounds good.

I think Helen is prettier than Esther, personally, but I think both are classic, nice names.

I don't think either goes super well with Carter. I think it would be a little strange in combination with something so traditional.

I hate the whole "sibset" naming thing. Children are individuals. I don't care that my one child has a Russian name and my other child has an Irish name. You should name your child what you like, not if it "flows" with your other child's name. But that's just my opinion. :)

I prefer Carter James. I am not too fond of the girl names...Elisabeth Kate I think is the best.

I love the name Esther. In fact, I really like all those names, especially Elisabeth (although I really don't like it with an 's' - I love the sharpness of the 'z' in the name and I think the 's' kind of undoes that).

As for being old-fashioned, I don't think Esther is too bad. What about Estelle - does that sound a bit more modern?

I LOVE ESTHER. It is my favourite name right now. It's so rarely used that it's become an uncommon gem! It has so much history behind it, and nice nickname possibilities - Essie, or Esti (the Hebre nn for Esther).

The argument that it's "old fashioned" or that it's hard to picture it on a young person is really, really lame. In fifty years the "modern" names like Madison or other crap like that will sound hopelessly dated.

Esther Kate is nice, but to mix up your combos - I really like Esther Elisabeth! It has a nice ring to it, and in this case I like the alliterative initials.

Personally, I love Esther. I think it would be charming on a little girl, elegant (and/or quirky) on a teenager, and very classic on a woman.

I prefer Helena to Helen, personally.

As for sibsets - I think they just need to sound nice together. Not too similar, not too rhymey, but also not Alexandria Beatrix Marie and Bob. Slight disparity there. ;)

I like your names!

i think it would be weird to mix classic and trendy. they wouldn't flow nicely, ya know? i don't like your girls names, but the boys names are cute. i'm not a fan of old fashioned names ;)

I LOVE your girls names. Esp Esther and Helen because they are so uncommon. Very pretty. I do think they'd sound kinda odd with Carter because Carter is SO trendy now and those two names def aren't.

That's a cute nn. I've never thought of that, I really like it.
