Reece

I don't know if I'll use it--it seems to be one of those gender ambiguous names these days, and I've got enough friends with ambiguous names who're known as other things or who have changed their name because of constantly getting mistaken for the other sex, but whatever.

Is Reece lame? For a boy, of course. Is that a particularly bad spelling? I knew a few boys with that particular spelling from childhood, so I doubt it's "uneek", but "Rhys" would make me feel like I were in the SCA.

I think it's ok - it's certainly common enough to spell it like that - although personally I don't like it spelled anyway other than Rhys. I've never met a female with the name and I think it would sound weird.

you might be thinking of reese witherspoon, the female actress?

isn't rhys a traditional welsh spelling of the name? that strikes me as more masculine, for some reason.

Yeah - she's the only female I've heard of with that name. I can kinda see Reece or Reese working on a girl (though I still see it as more masculine). Rhys would be totally out of place on a girl though. Yeah, it's the traditional Welsh spelling.

I prefer Rhys.

I have a 14 month old (boy) named Reece. We absolutely love it and love it more and more as time goes on. =)

Oh, and also from what I gathered, Reece spelled "Reese" is supposed to be the feminine version.

Nope, no one ever has. In fact I believe Reece was first a boys name. I'm just not big on the Reese spelling because it reminds me of peanut butter cups, lol.

I prefer the Reese spelling.

I like the spelling Rhys better, but I can see a lot of people going "...Rice? Riss? What??"

Reece looks alright too.

I like Reese best.

but I have no idea why she chose Reese

Her full name is Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon.

For a boy I only like Rhys. I don't get the SCA vibe at all. To me, it seems like the normal correct spelling.

Girls (unfortunately) end up with the dumbed up creative spellings. Reece and Reese both land more on the feminine end of the spectrum for me.

Maybe I'm being dumb, but what is SCA?

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2007-01-27 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The Society for Creative Anachronism (http://www.sca.org/). The people who dress up in medieval garb and act out sword fights and jousting and royal ceremonies. You often see them at renaissance fairs, taking on other personas who would've lived in 13th century Britain for example. It's all considered very geeky by some though personally, I think it's all a lot of fun.

I like Rhys... and by that i mean "rice".. heh.
I dislike the name entirely..

I grew up with two Reece's that were male. Since the only female Reese I've heard of is Reese Witherspoon, the s has more feminine connotations to me.

I love the name spelled Reese.
