What is the pronunciation of the name MAYA?
I think it looks really pretty, and I was just wondering if there's a certain way to say it, or, like Mia, it's pretty much whatever.

Yeah, I speak Japanese (badly) but "mai" is pronounced "my" (well, not exactly, but pretty close) and "mei" is "may." They just have a bit more of an "eee" sound at the end than the English words we're comparing them to here. So, for example, "mai" sounds like "mah-ee" said really fast.

But I agree with that you're saying here. Since I tend to see the Japanese pronunciation, I get "may-uh" from Meia and "my-ah" from Maia.

so it's kind of OT, but does that mean I've been thinking/saying "my tie" when I see Mei-Tei carriers mentioned and it should be "may tay"?

If it's Japanese, then yes. "Tei" is kind of like the very first part of "tech(nology)" with that short "te" sound. And then a quick "eee" sound at the end. "My tie" in Japanese would be more equivalent to "mai tai."

But I'm not familiar with it, so it could come from a language other than Japanese. And in that case, your guess is as good as mine on pronunciation.
