Llewellyn seeems very very masculine.

Raiden makes me think of bug killer.

Not my style, and not horrible either.

And while Llewellyn is traditionally a male name, since it's the middle name, I don't think it's a big deal. Also, it sounds feminine to me- like a combination of Lou(ise) and Ellen.

I enjoy the girls' name. I associate Llewellyn (which I knew how to pronounce) with http://www.llewellyn.com/ - the company.

Boys' name isn't bad.

history and strength of the name aside, Llewellyn just makes my eyes hurt and brain pause to figure it out

My little girl's middle name is a French boy name, and it does sound more like a girl's name, I agree that it would be traumatizing as a boys name. I really don't like the first name though either, both are too masculine in the opposite of ways. Seems odd. Raiden makes me think of the Mortal Kombat guy... And the two names don't go well at all, not to mention that one is so very simple and the other is very unique.

I like them. I think the girl's name is definitely different - in a good way, while the boy's name balances well between first and mn.

Llewel.yn I think of the MALE author and the last name of a guy I went to high school with. Yuck.

OH MY GOD! I love Llywelyn. I plan on using it for my son. :)

And since Llywelyn is a boy's name and if you do change your mind about it, how about Gwenllian, the name of Llywelyn the Last's daughter? Reika Gwenllian, imho, sounds better.

I don't care for Reika, but I like Llewellyn as a mn. I guess I'm the only one that's seen it as a girls name.
John is kind of... bland next to Reika Llewellyn, but there's nothing wrong with it. Raiden is okay, but not my style.

I hope you have a boy.
Raiden is, at first impression, nothing more than an attempt to jump on the -aden trend, while trying to be unneek, and failing miseably.
John is good, though.

Not that my opinion matters in the least, but I hate all 4 names... sorry.
John is boring. Raiden is a mixture of Mortal Kombat & -aden trend (I know that it's the name of the God as well, but these associations come first for me). Reika sounds made-up, or like an anime character. And I don't even know where to begin pronouncing Llewellyn...

I honestly think "Raiden John" sounds 100X better.

*hugs* None of your names are my style, but if you and your hubby like them then go for it. I feel so bad for you with everyone jumping on you :(

I agree that Llewellyn is a very masculine name, and it does look masculine... but it sounds exactly like Lou-Ellen, which could be a girls' name... so I think it could pass off alright for a girl if it's meaningful to you.

Reika.. I naturally read that as "ree-ka" which is nice, but "reek" is a slang word here for something that smells really bad... like "oh man your shoes reek!!!" and so that puts me off the name. Perhaps you're pronouncing it differently though?

I like John, but I agree with the person who said that Raiden sounds like a bug spray... I think there is an insect poison somewhere called Raid, maybe that's why.

Anyway I think the names are fine because even though the middle names may not be everyone's cup of tea, middle names aren't really used much anyway... so if they mean a lot to you then go for it (as long as you can be sure that the meaning is something that will always be important to you and isn't liked to some passing phase)

That's my brother's middle name. It's a pretty traditional Welsh name. Never heard it for a girl though!

From: [identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com
It doesn't sound exactly like Lou-Ellen. The "Ll" is like a whole different letter in Welsh - it's not pronounced the same as one L. I can't really write down how it's meant to be pronounced though.

To the OP - if you want to name her Lou-Ellen why not just spell it like that? Llewellyn is a good name - I plan on giving it to a son as his middle name - but on a girl...sorry I can't stand that.

From: [identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com
Oh... I don't know how it is meant to be pronounced then, but I've only heard it pronounced exactly like Lou-Ellen so that's what I imagined the OP to think too

It's like Loo-ellin, but the Ll is pronounced differently. I can't really write it down - it's a Welsh thing. Kinda a mixture of "L", "Th" and "Cl"...but that doesn't really explain it.

I've heard Colleen isn't even really a name in Ireland -- it means "girl," and it's a name Irish-Americans use, like Kelly or Shannon.

From: [identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com
To be honest that's me being nitpicky ;) I reckon 9/10 people would pronounce it like Lou-Ellen - it's not a horrible mispronunciation and the "Ll" is a bit of a pain to get your mouth round!

No, my paternal grandfather was Welsh though, and Llewellyn was his middle name and is also my dad's and my brother's. I think "thlew-el-yn" is a pretty good estimation - it's impossible to explain it really!

That's the same as saying "it's not any worse than REALLY REALLY BAD."

Naming a boy Angel is REALLY REALLY BAD. So is naming a girl Llewellyn.

I know a girl named Cyrille. Definitely a boy's name; looks like a boy's name; but sounds like a girl's name. So she can get away with it, I think, although that doesn't make it a good name: For the longest time I thought her name was "Surreal."

You people are ridiculous. Just because you don't like a name or you don't understand a person's choice doesn't mean it's a terrible name, or even a bad name. How many people don't understand your choice to call your child Adria? It's one letter away from a boy's name. And Personally, i wouldn't name my kid Adria. But that's my preference, and your child's name is your own choice.

Pregnancy is a challenging time... Like a nine month obstacle course. And one would expect that in a community of pregnant women and new moms that there would be more support rather than cruelty.

And Eloise is a character in a children's book. What does it matter??? Even if it DID originated from the game (it goes back centuries before Mortal Kombat existed), who really cares? Alanis Morissette was named for a word in a greek newspaper that her parents like the sound of. The somewhat popular girl's name 'Kia' is a small island in the mediterranean.

Take a valium and google reading comprehension.
Then you should wrap your mind around the fact that if someone doesn't want other's opinions then OMG don't ask for it.

There's a difference, however subtle, between 'opinion' and 'fascim'. Maybe you could start a new community. Some title ideas:
1. 'Better than you'
2. 'My baby is way cooler than yours'
3. 'Baby-Name Elitists'
4. 'High Maintenance Mommies'
5. 'Silk Diapers'
6. 'Mommy Mussolini'

She said, "tell me what you think of..." People are telling her what they think. Giving a girl a tradional male name is slightly weird. Also, just so you know, Adria is a tradional female name in Greece. Guess where her father is... Greek! But that was a nice attempt to compare the two situations and insult me at the same time.

And if you read what I said, I said the name was... anyone? Oh yeah, I said it was really pretty. But it's a mother fucking soda.
