(no subject)

Sorry I've been posting here so much...

Is it completely stupid to have a child named Devon and another one named Evan??

I like the name Evan I just think the kids will get confused or something when they get older.

Middle name is decided on and its going to be John.
What do you think?

I'd advise against Devon and Evan as a sibset.

Maybe suggest something like Ethan, Edwin, Eric, Everett.
They're not Evan.. but categorically similar.

Eck. I definitely don't like it. It's way too close together for my taste

[identity profile] trissyd.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They're both good names... but awful as siblings.

[identity profile] out-of-mana.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I don't like them together.
I have an Evan, his male siblings are Ethan & Owen :)

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Lol i suggested those because they are close to Evan but not too similar to Devon

[identity profile] lavandersparkle.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree with everybody. You shouldn't use them as siblings.

[identity profile] calixbat.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the names if they are both for females, however Im thinking ther aren't.

[identity profile] calixbat.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Im a bit odd liike that....

[identity profile] zante.livejournal.com 2007-01-13 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Devon reminds me of the meat 'Spam', because here in Australia we have a meat byproduct called Devon......

[identity profile] eleanorgrace.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Evan is a derivative of the name John. So I wouldn't use them together.

[identity profile] ghost-dance.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
yes. yes it is.

and not only that but Evan is the Welsh form of John. so you'd basically be naming your kid "John John"

[identity profile] poespretty.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
haha way back when, when my grandpa whose name was john, made his confirmation and had to pick a confirmation name (not sure if you are Catholic or familiar with this tradition, but it's usually a Saint's name and becomes part of your name.) he chose St.John. yeah I know original. and seeing as he had no mn, it made his new name "John John".

to the OP, I think they are both great names but too similar in sound for siblings.

[identity profile] ghost-dance.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
i know way back when, parents sometimes chose names that were also the same as their last names. i saw an obituary in the paper for Amos B. Amos :X

also in Catch 22 there was a character who was called Major Major Major Major (title, fn, mn, ln)

[identity profile] poespretty.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ugh, I've always hated that. Thomas Thomas, Richard Richards, Matthew Matthews. just why????? would you do that? so not necessary.

That's why I always find P.Diddy's name (Sean John) to be hilarious.

[identity profile] ghost-dance.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i always just smack my forehead whenever i hear it

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised you have to ask! It is very stupid lol

Owen
Euan
Ethan
Alan

ummm maybe!?

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm... I wouldn't name them Stacy, Tracy, and Lacy either.

I don't want my kids to be a Dr Seuss poem.

[identity profile] hautemamma.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's a little too cutesy.

Sorry, but yes.

[identity profile] maude.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
If you did that, you'd have to come up with a rhyming name for a third child so they didn't feel left out. AKA...don't do it. :)

[identity profile] lastcastle.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well since they rhyme, yes, it's a bad idea. Also, Evan is John, so that's weird. Like naming your kid John John (or Jane Joan or something).

[identity profile] smileygoldfish.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't do it. It'll get you confused. People mix up their kids names all the time as it is, much more when they rhyme.

On a side note, I had a friend in college name Erin who was dating a Devon and i thought it would be the cutest thing in the world if they were to get married, and have a kid name Evan as a combination of their names. But alas they are no longer together.

But that doesn't have anything to do with you. sorry, tangent

[identity profile] corielcries.livejournal.com 2007-01-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Being that Evan is the Welsh form of John, I wouldn't pair them together, nor would I use it with a child named Devon as the sibling. Great name though!

[identity profile] neuraltube.livejournal.com 2007-01-15 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
My husband's name is Evan, and when he introduces himself he always gets "Kevin? Devon?" etc. People have a hard time with that name for some reason. I wouldn't use it at all, and certainly not with Devon as a sibling.

[identity profile] thiscantbesoy.livejournal.com 2007-01-15 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Completely stupid. :)
