My husband and I have decided on Aislin or Caitlin.

Aislin Rain now sounds flat to me.
Aislin has been a favorite name of mine forever, i used to name all my teddy bears Aislin, I named most of my WoW characters Aislin. But I cannot think of a middle name.

Caitlin Rain I love, except that Katelyn is the number 6th most popular name (or very close to that number)

Im worried about my child going to school with tons of other girls with the same name, especially when there's is the same spelling and hers is different, well I don't know if that would make things better or worse

Anything?

Caitlin is the only acceptable spelling of Caitlin, in my view. For the record, I'm Canadian, and that's the spelling that most people would assume. I'm surprised it's that common! It must be newly common, it never used to be.

so I looked it up on behindthename.com and that is indeed correct (not that i thought you were wrong, just that i didn't understand)

anyway- i still don't like it because it would never be pronounced correctly except in Ireland i'm assuming

i like as-lin or eyz-lyn (one is how i first did it, the other my roommate). i just don't get the H sound when it's not there

Not disputing that (I know it's the proper pronunciation), but I have a friend called Aislin who pronounces it Aze-lin

Yes Caitlin is so very popular but it's one of those names that is popular for a reason... because it's lovely! I like that you've kept the best spelling. Katelyn.. Kaitlin.. Catelyn etc looks all wrong to me.

Aislin is pretty but Caitlin is prettier :-)
I Like Caitlin Olivia.

To me Aislin seems like one of those names that would be consistantly mispronounced. I didn't even know how to say it until a comment was posted below.

I love Caitlin and that spelling especially. As for popularity.. I personally don't know many who spell it 'Caitlin'. I always see Katelyn or Kaitlyn.

Not a fan of Rain as MN, but that's just personal preference.

I'm surprised you're using the correct Irish pronunciation for Aislinn when you aren't for Caitlin. (Aislinn= Ash lyn, Aislin= Ash leen, Caitlin= Coyt leen... it's the Irish un-anglicized version of Kathleen).

Caitlin in all its incarnations is ridiculously popular right now. On the 2005 SSA list nine different spellings ranked, and if you add them up with all the Kates and Katherine names (most of whom will probably go by Katie)... well it's just kind of ridiculous. It's so overdone. If you were still going to use Caitlin I think sticking with this spelling is a good idea, but there will still be tons of them in her school (all spelled differently too... the four most popular are Kaitlyn, Katelyn, Caitlyn, and Caitlin). I don't really like Rain as a middle name, it's my cousin's middle name and I find it a bit cheesy.

Are you looking for more suggestions?

Me too. "Rain" makes me think of someone in a sappy romance or a soap...

I love the name Ashlyn, but I think Aislin would be very confusing in school and such. A combo I love is Ashlyn Jade.

I'd pronounce "Aislin" - Eh-s-lin, and that just sounds made-up to me...
"Caitlin" is much, MUCH better...

Personally, I like Caitlin. Who cares if other people name their daughters that? Not every name has to be yoonique...

But, if you're worried, how about something similar yet not quite in the Caitlin family? i.e. Katrina, Kathleen, etc.

If you're mispronouncing Aislin anyhow, use Caitlin.

I've never seen the name Aislin before, but I thought it must be pronounced "Eye-Lynn," like Isla = Eye-la. Guess it puts images of Aisle - Isle = Eyel in my mind. Yuck.

I feel like Aislin (the prn Ashlyn, whatever the spelling) is basically like an extension of Ashley. Like someone took Ashley & went with the trend of adding "lyn" onto everything. it's not bad but it doesn't seem all that fabulous to me either.

I like Caitlin (the only spelling ;p). It's my sister's name. I do think it's popular, but also as someone pointed out, that's bc it's a great name. :)

If you like Aislin, here are a few other Gaelic (inspired) names that you might like: Ainsley and Aveleen. I say "inspired" because the Gaelic spelling of "Aveleen" is Aoibhlinn. I also love the name Aoife (Eva) and Fiona. And although I'm not terribly crazy about it, there's always Siobhan.

I'm not a big fan of Aislin pronounced Aze-lin because... well.. that's not how it's pronounced. Caitlin is pretty, but way too popular for my taste.

Calling someone Aislin and pronouncing it AZE-lin is like calling someone Sean and pronouncing it SEEN. Just... wrong.

Use Caitlin I guess, though I was done with that name about 35,000 Caitlin/Katelyn/Keihtlynn/Caitlyns ago.
