I just watched the movie Wicker Man, and I'm curious to see what everyone thinks about the name Rowen on a little girl? It's cute, IMO, but I'm not sure if I would ever use it.

I think of a boy for some reason.

I like it. I think that's Brooke Shield's daughter's name.

Mmm Labyrinth.

I love that name, but I've always spelt it Rowan.

I like it, spelled Rowan like the tree. It's most traditionally a male name, but as a nature name I feel it's fair game for either.

I really like Rowan for a boy.

I go to Rowan University, so that's all I can think of when I see Rowan/Rowen/Roan. Other than that it's a nice name for either gender.

I used to work with a girl named Rowen. She called herself Becky. (I only knew her real name because I was her supervisor.)

Etymologically: Rowan can be either male or female although prior to the 20th century it was a surname not a first name; Rowen dates from the 14th century as a variation of Rowena and has always been female, but it's literary and was rare as a real name (Rowena is a negative character, the wife of Vortigern).

I like it! (spelled Rowan)
I knew a girl by that name when I was in university, she was really cool.

I'm in the "cute but wouldn't use" crowd

For me, it's a boys only name.

I like it for a girl, though I prefer the spelling Rowan. I think it's cute, but I wouldn't use it for my own kid.

I love Rowan on a boy and Rowena on a girl. I've never heard of Rowan/Rowen on a girl, it's totally a boys name to me.

I only like it for a boy. I like Rowena for a girl though.

Aside from Rowan Atkinson, I've only hear it as a girls name but personally I think it's suitable for both. Love it!

Rowan Atkinson is exactly why my boyfriend shot it down for our second child.. He said all he can think of is "Mr. Bean"

Plus, he didn't like the idea of 2 tree names for our kids as our daughter is Willow.

I just watched that movie last night too. :) I was thinking the same thing: cute name for a girl!!

I'd spell it Rowan.

I even like it for a boy: Roan.

the only Rowan I've ever known IRL is a little girl (maybe now she's like a teenager, can't remember how old she is exactly. 12? 14?) so to me, I'm used to it on a girl and don't mind it for a boy either.
