Rosemary

What do you think? I originally came up with it because my sister-in-law is named Mary Leslie (double first name) and all the first daughters in her family are named Mary (Something). Her mom is Mary Jane, etc. I thought of Rosemary as an alternative. I love it. I think it's classic, a bit retro, and has a lovely feminine quality.

I don't know. I mean, I'm 20 and my friends are like "Who is Rosemary's Baby?" and I look at them like they're insane for not knowing, lol. Then again, I love the book and the movie and I'm a movie nut who knows these things.

I still think it's a pretty clear memory though, at least for 30 years old plus. Or, well, as a movie lover, I should hope. :-\

I agree.. but then I'm going to use the name Damien if I have a boy.. and everyone says.. "Like 'The Omen'?!?! NOOOOO!!!!" especially with the (very crappy) remake.

Yeah. To me, it's just an overall devilish name, but I don't think The Omen right away, even though that's probably where that 'value' got instilled in me from.

I'ev never seen the film and I still thought of that.
I think it's because there are no other famous Rosemary's at all...

Clooney, but I don't think people think of her off the top of their heads.

I like the 80s stuff that's like "classic 80s" - Brat Pack, etc. Overall I love the 60s for film, and I like a lot of recent stuff, too. :)

Im such a sentimental sap (and I love unity) so The Breakfast Club is up there for me. And I'm a sucker for Ghost, lol. And Dirty Dancing, lol.

My favorite older movies - Tammy and the Bachelor, The Egg and I, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?, A Night To Remember, It's A Wonderful Life, Pillow Talk, House Boat, Roman Holiday...

I think it's rather quaint.
Rasemary's baby scares me somewhat though.
Mary is a family name on my maternal side (it's my middle name) I really dislike it though and if I want to honour family members I'd go with Marielle/Mariaella/Marianne/Mariella.
Similar but the difference to Mary... I love them :-)

I really like it.

Rory is a nice, unusual nickname.

And you're welcome to that opinion.

I think Rosemary is very pretty. If she doesn't want to be Rosemary (or if the whole Rosemary's baby thing has still stuck!), she could just go by Rose or Rosie, which are also nice names.

I agree, I think of the herb, not Rosemary's Baby. I've never seen the movie and I doubt people of your daughter's generation will have that as an immediate reaction to the name. Plus, I really like that it's a great alternative to the double first name thing-- to me that's just so hick-ish.

I love it.. it's old-fashioned, but not outdated. I don't know the movie so I don't have that association. It's one of those names that is rare enough that she won't encounter too many others, but at the same time, it's not unusual so people won't go "what??" and get it wrong all the time. Which I think makes it quite a perfect option, especially considering the significance of Mary to you

I have negative connotations with that name...
