what do you think of the name Antigone (An-tig-gon-ie)?
i'm in LOVE with the name, and i figured Teagan would make a nice nickname.
but the thing is that i HATE the spelling. always makes me want to say "anti-gone." just by looking at it.

so my question is, do you know of any alternative ways to spell Antigone?
(WITHOUT being incredibly uneeeeek. gah.)

I agree I think. I'm not aware of any accepted alternate spellings and I think made up sellings of names are a bad idea as they make the parents look like idiots.

It's pretty much a straight transliteration of the Greek characters - Αντιγόνη. I can't think of any other way to spell it that isn't completely dreadful.

While the character is admirable, the name really is a mouthful. I would honestly just go with Teagan.

The only things I can think of are Antegonee or Anteagonee... neither has much appeal to me, but that could just be because the name in general doesnt have much appeal to me. It's just too much, I think.

Considering the history behind the name, I wouldn't try and spell it any other way.

I wouldn't use it at all personally, but if you like it, then go for it I guess.

I know a little girl whose name is spelled Antigunee or something like that. Family members (messed up relations, I don't know who are siblings or aunts): Javanae, Montiqua, Octaveus, and Ty.

It is SUCH a sad story that I couldn't get past that to use the name. But if you can, I agree Teagan is a good nickname.

Hmmm....I like the name too, but sadly that's the only way I would spell it. But it's not SO bad...once people understood that it's not pronounced like ANTI-something, it's like Ann-TIG-gon-ee..

If you can't bring yourself to use Antigone, why not choose another name from the play, like Iocaste/Jocasta (yo-CAHS-ta) or Ismene (is-MEN-ee)

Not sure how you can be "in LOVE with the name" but "HATE the spelling"...but, if you really want to spell it like it sounds, you'd have to go with "Antiggony" (and that's the LEAST yewneeck spelling I can think of). And that's just bad. Antiggany, same.

Antigone is such a tragic story, I doubt I'd want to name any child after it. Plus, as mentioned before, any alternative spelling is just going to look crazy. I really like Teagan a lot, though, you should just go with that.
