Nymphandora = Nymphomaniac, haha.

And how in the world do you get Tonks as a nickname for that? Just curious..

Gotcha.

I'm clearly not a Harry Potter fan, haha. :]

harry potter fan much? while i think nymphadora is pretty, i think it would be a definite magnet for nymphomaniac jokes and i don't think you'd want your child saddled with that.

percival is a name you'd get beaten up for. percy would be pushing it

georgia is by far my favorite name on your list. i also like demitri but i'm not a big fan of demetrius

I called my roommate, Tanya, Tonks all the time. I don't know how logical that nickname is, though.

Cutest Jack chibi ever.

That being said...

Nyphadora is horrible to me. And I don't get where the nickname comes from. I think that's horrible too.

Georgia I love. John is a good ol' classic. Perry and Percy are okay, but I don't like Percival.

LMAO. Well that quotation just about sums it up, lol.

It seems immature to me, naming a kid that. Especially with the nickname. Blech.

Titanic is my all-time favorite movie ever! I saw it for the 100th time two days ago. I could quote that whole movie I swear. Love love love it.

You may definitely steal, not sure if I credited in my userpics (I should go do that... lol) but the maker is [livejournal.com profile] ximxlikewoahx.

I think I have found a kindred spirit. lol

My 12th birthday party was ALL Titanic, and I lived and breathed it for years with my sister. I was almost 11 when it came out and she was 22 and we bonded over it. My room was all Titanic, I have all kinds of rare collectibles and collections and memorabilia and books, etc. It has since settled, lol, but it's still a dear, dear film to me, and my favorite till the day I die. I still love and cherish watching it. Le sigh. :)

"Of course the experience of it was... somewhat different."

"Oh ho ho! Now who's being rude?"

Ugh, I totally appreciate the Harry Potter reference, but DO NOT do that to your child. She will get all kinds of nymphomaniac jokes and get picked on CONSTANTLY for that name.

If you want to go with a Harry Potter reference, why not Ginny or Molly or Lily or something a little less obvious.

From: [identity profile] sarahrose.livejournal.com
Yes, I was going to suggest that too. I might not do "Ginevra" though, lol. ;)

Date: 2007-01-05 05:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] p-inkjeans.livejournal.com
Haha, agreed. That's almost as bad as Nymphadora.

LOL Yeah. I like Ginny, and I even like Gin as quick nickname, maybe later on in a person's life, but I would do Virginia if anything.

Hermione is a 'guilty pleasure' type name for me. I generally don't have anything I'm ashamed to like, but that is one that I wouldn't name a kid for sure. Along with Calliope, lol.

nymphadora (nickname = tonks) - No no no NO. This is just awful to do to your child, both the name and the nickname. It's great for Harry Potter, but not so great out here in the real world.
bettie - Too old for my taste.
olive - I don't even like Olivia, so this is a big negative from me too.
georgia - Not my style, but the best of the bunch.

percival (nickname = percy/perry) - Don't like it at all.
demetrius (nickname = demitri) - Decent.
darion - I kinda like it.
john - Too plain and boring.

I knew a kid named Percy. He was beaten up and stuffed into trash cans constantly as a child. It didn't help that he had red hair.

I second everyone who was against naming an actual child Nymphadora. The obvious association, for those who don't read Harry Potter, is a nymphomaniac. I also agree with [livejournal.com profile] aleutia_selkie in that if you really want to name your child something from HP there are many other names that don't have such negative associations. I was a fan of Hermione for quite a while until J.K. Rowling got her hands on it.

I like Percival in theory because it brings to mind King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and all that, but he would definitely end up being called Percy, which to me just sounds way too coke-bottle-glasses, pocket-protector nerdy and very far away from the original intent.

Demitri I like; Demetrius and the others are fine, but not really my style.

PLEASE do not use Nymphadora!
When she gets to be a teenager she will hate her life, I gaurantee it.

nymphadora (nickname = tonks) - could you truly in good conscious give your daughter a name that beings with NYMPH?
bettie - cute but too nick namey
olive - nice
georgia - okay

percival (nickname = percy/perry) - love it
demetrius (nickname = demitri) - love it
darion - okay
john - meh

Nymphadora just screams "IM A HARRY POTTER FREAK" (especially if you're going to nickname her Tonks.. honestly). don't take your obsessions out on your future children.

i like Olive and Georgia and Percival.

I know you said you know there different, but I seriously hate all of these. I think Georgia and John are the only normal names on there. Just to give some advice, your kids would get teased if you named them any of these except Georgia or John. Just saying for the future.

Wow, Harry Potter much?

I thoroughly dislike Nymphadora on anyone but the real Tonks. It's just too strange, too many potential nicknames, not to mention the zomguberfangirl-yness of it all.

Olive is cute, but I can't see it on an adult.
Georgia is very cute

Percival- Maybe, as long is he doesn't later have a little sister named Tonks. I like the nn Percy best.
Demetrius- It's a little much. I love Demitri, though.
Darion - Not my style.
John- Wow! Very plain next to your other names, but it's a classic.

I love Tonks (the character) and I kind of... well, I don't mind the name Nymphadora because it means "gift of the nymphs" (I think) but yeah, the nymphomaniac thing is too much. Just after HBP came out, I was really, really obsessed with Tonks/Lupin as a 'ship and it occured to me that the name Pandora - which I liked in its on right, as well as because of something else - could be an adequate substitution, and I still love that name today. It's similar-ish and far more acceptable.

No...no...no..no...NOOOOO at all the Harry Potter references. Fan fic? Okay! Fan art? Okay! Naming a kid after a Harry Potter character? NOT OKAY.

From: [identity profile] snailrevolution.livejournal.com
I always thought Tonks was crazy; Nymphadora is so pretty.

That said, I'd not suggest using it on a real kid. Not only is there the nympho thing, but she'd be teased by those who know about Harry Potter.

Not a fan of Bettie. The other wo are nice.

I like Perry and Percy on their own, and the spellings Darian (which changes the pronunciation slightly for me, but eh) and Dmitri. And John is John. :p

Overall, not a bad list.
