[identity profile] everinbluejeans.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm all of 5 weeks pregnant (baby #1, yay!) and my sister is into...unique names. Which can be fun, but some of them are extremely odd! We did, however, come up with two tonight that we agreed on and thought were unique without being yewneeq.

Girl: Emerald Rose
Boy: Edward Roan

She'd end up being Emma, theoretically, and we'd probably call him by his middle name. I'm undecided on the boy's name, but the girl's I think is fabulous! Opinions? Am I being weird without realizing it?

I like them both, though there seem to be a lot of Emmas these days.

I like Emerald Rose a lot. It has an older feel to it without being "pearl" or whatnot. I would try not to call her Emma though (as much as I love the name) because she's going to be surrounded by Emmas and Emilys.

I like Edward, but I don't like Roan. At all.

Not another Emma please please please.

Wow I am so sick to death of the name Emma, i think i actualy hate it :-/

What about Esme? It's like Esmerelda which is like Emerald.
Or Evelyn/Evie Rose?
I know a lot of Edward's too... why not call him Roan? I don't get the middle name first name thingy, seems pointlessly confusing.

I like Emerald but I don't see the point in naming her that if you're just going to call her Emma all the time. It won't make her any more unique than all the other Emmas out there. =/

How is Roan pronounced? Does it rhyme with Joan? I think that if you're going to call him Roan, just name him Roan Edward instead of Edward Roan. One of my pet peeves is people who name their child one thing KNOWING that they're going to call him/her something else. If you're going to call them Emma and Roan, then name them Emma and Roan.

I personally don't know anyone named Emma so I can't speak about the "popularity" of it. I would think that if you wanted your daughter to realize that she's in trouble you would call her "Emerald Rose" as opposed to her nickname, but that's just how I feel.

I vote against Roan/Rowan since I go to Rowan University and it's not the greatest school ever. It's also a surname since the school was named after Henry Rowan.

Emerald is ok, but I don't like it paired with Rose which makes it too cheesy. (Like Crystal Rose or something. Blah.) Plus Rose is just a boring overused mn these days. And there are about 10 million too many baby Emmas in the world today.

The boy name is nice.

I agree that Emerald paired with Rose is pretty cheesy.

it kind of bothers me that Emerald and Rose are both colours.
But I like Edward alot.

My thoughts exactly. It's kind of a contradiction too, since one is green and the other is red.

Why does Emerald have to be Emma? Why not Emmy of even just Em?

Emerald Rose is pretty dimestore romance (smut) novel, if you know what I mean. I also don't think there's a point in naming her one thing if you plan on calling her another - Emma is a fine name, why try to make it something else?

I love Edward, there aren't enough baby Edwards nowadays.

My philosophy on nicknames is that if you're planning on calling a child something from the get go, why not name them that?

I hate Emma, and I think it's a waste of a good name (Emerald). That being said, I really like Emerald Rose. Edward Roan is good too.

I like Emerald but...please NO MORE EMMAS! I hate the name with a very passion.

The boys name is...umm let's just say not my style.

Maybe you could use it as a middle name instead?

I love Edward - but if I had one, I'd give him the suffix "I" for purely geeky reasons. Anyway, yay for Edward.

Emerald seems really cheesy to me, and also like a cheap buy-in to the Em- name trend. I like Ruby way better. Rose as a first name would be awesome though, and I do find it a bit odd to have Emerald and Rose in the same name because they make me think of green and red, which clash.

oh, and Rowan is a good name. Roan is not. Rowan is a type of tree and botanical names as given names have a bit of history behind them, but Roan just makes me think of horses. Edward is a fine name but I prefer Edmund.
