what are your feelings on children being named after seasons in which they are NOT born in?
appropriate/inappropriate?

some examples.

a little girl named Autumn who is born in February.
or an April or Summer who is born in December.

i cant think of any other examples, but you get the idea.

and while we're on it, what is your favorite "season/month" name for a child?
enlighten me oh mighty naming ones! :)

I enjoy July for a girl, and Autumn is okay.

I don't think there is anything inappropriate about it. I don't think there is much 'inappropriate' when it comes to naming. Then again, I'm rather liberal socially.

I don't think it's a big deal. One of my best friends is an April born in December and it never seemed weird to me.

Personally, I like Autumn the best. I can't stand Summer. April is ok but I mainly it because of my friend.

It's not my style but it could be worse.

I'm not sure I could do it, but I think it's fine if you really like the name (and are willing to deal with people sometimes being idiots about it). My favorite season names are April and Autumn for a girl and August for a boy.

I've thought about this, some.

I like the name June and my baby happens to due in June. However, I have decided that it would be better to name a baby June if she were to be born in December. I have no idea why this makes sense to me, it just does.

My twin sister's middle name is June and we were born in June. Actually, she was named after our grandmother, so it's just a coincidence.

I agree with you. I think it's weirder to name the baby June/April/May if she was actually born in that month.

Autumn and May are the only names that I really like in that "category."
But I prefer the spelling Mae, and would only consider it as a middle name if I ever thought of using it.

I actually like it better if they're not born the month they were named after. I think if I chose to name my May baby May it'd be more like "oh, she can't even think of a real name, so she's picking the month" ya know? If it's a different time of year, then you know that they actually liked the name.

I don't see how it matters. Infact if a child is called an obscure month like October (you dont see many of them) I think i'd prefer that the parents liked the name & used it rather than just beacuse he/she was born in October.

I Love Summer as a name and as a season. Autumn is okay, I used to like it a lot more but now it's quite popular among the trendy new parents. Winter is possibly a cool name for a boy... it might grow on me.

I don't like any month names except December. Not that i'd use it, but it's a lvoely word to say and I like Ember, hence I think it may make an alright name.

My favorites in that category are Summer for a girl and August for boy. I think they are all appropriate all the time.

Noelle is the only one I think is totally appropriate to use for a Christmastime baby.

Reminded by the note below - I ADORE the name Holly!

Our top two names for our daughter due in March were Autumn and Holly. I don't think it matters.

A good friend's daughter is Autumn, she was born in February. I thought it was odd, esp since she's Autumn Mae, but her name fits and it's cute.

A LJ friend has a Noelle who was born on St Patrick's Day.

Autumn Mae is a bit much for my tastes

I think Autumn, April, Summer are fine for kids, but there are some names that wouldn't go, like November, September, December, October etc.

I wouldn't mind naming a kid after a season even though they weren't born in it, but it might lead to a lot of teasing in school =s

Well, depends on the hemisphere, doesn't it? I mean, Summer for a baby born from December-February in Australia IS appropriate. But I don't really think it matters when the baby was born.

I don't see anything wrong with it, I jsut consider it like any other name. The only one I really like is April. May, June and Autumn are kind of okay, but not really my style.

I think it's better to name a child born in December Summer than Winter, then their name is their name and not associated with a season so much y'know?

My favourite season based name is Autumn.

My grandfather's name is Thur, solely because he was born on a Thursday. Our family is full of jokers, and Id probably consider naming my daughter Wednesday if she was actually born on that day. Just family tradition.

I would actually prefer that it not be related; I think it's a little tacky to name your child after the season or month that they were born because then it seems like you haven't put that much thought into naming them. Ditto with names that have to with the order a child was born-- I've known a Xian ("first", in Chinese) and an Octavio (the eighth child, but I guess by then his parents were running out of names).

It's fine if you just like the names though. I like Autumn and December for a girl, personally, and July or August for boys. I wouldn't name my child Spring, although Primavera (Spanish) is okay, just not my style.

haha, I posted about this once upon a time in a pregnancy community! basically the concensus I got was - who cares? If you love the name, use it!

Oh, and my favorite names of this genre (for a baby) are:
January, September, Tuesday, Autumn, Winter. All for girls. And my husband hates all of them. >:-[

I like it better if the name doesn't match the season or month the baby was born in, it's a little too much.
My favorite month name is June.

I was born in August and was this close ][ to being named April.

I think it's fine. I love April, May, and Autumn for names.

I only like May, spelled Mae, because it was my mother's middle name and my great-grandmothers first name.
I despise the name April, but that's my fiancé's ex-girlfriend's name and she basically killed my cat.

As far as Autumn, Summer, April, May, and June, those are all widely accepted as names, I think they are fine for a child born in any month. I love the name April. I would actually never use it on a child born in April though.

As far as Winter, December, September, January... those are hideous "names" and I would be bothered at the thought of them being used at ALL.

I don't think a child named April born in December is as odd as one named Summer born in December. I know quite a few Aprils so its not just a month name for me.

I like June mainly for month names. Autumn is okay but not one I would use. Summer/Winter/Spring for names don't sound right to my ears. I had a grey cat named January once but can't imagine it on a real child!

I agree with sotypical42483 on the Autumn, Summer, April, May and June part. They're more than just months/seasons because they've been used as names for so long. I wouldnt really think much about it either way, although my preference would be for the name to not match the month/season of birth. I knew sisters name Summer and Autumn. I also knew a girl named April because she was due the first of May and came early, in April. My great aunt's name is June.

As far as more "unique" month or season names, I would think it was extremely tacky if the month/season matched when they were born. I like January, September and Wednesday for a girl and July for a boy.

I think naming a child born in April, April, would be kind of odd. Like, "Oh, I couldn't think of a name, so I'll name her after the month! It's used as a name anyway." Lazy-like, y'know? :p

I think Autumn is such a lovely name.

I depends where you're from, I guess! Summer would be appropriate in Australia in December. But aside from that, I don't think it matters when the child is born.

I like Summer and August but wouldn't use them.
