I keep seeing "Mia" as such a popular name, on all the lists, but I can't figure out if people are prnouncing it "Meee-a" or "My-a."

My brother calls his daughter Mia "mee-ah" and his youngest Gia "jee-ah" yes they rhyme.. yes on purpose.
