[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Since my fiance and I can't agree on a Jewish name for our future hypothetical daughter I started reading names from babynames.com to him to see if we could agree on any name at all. I just want us to really both love a name not settle for one because the other likes it.

Anyway said he liked Kaia, I like alot too. It means "to rejoice". If we chose it, her Hebrew name would be Chaya (which means "life").

According to social security baby names site Kaia was the 698th most popular name in 2005.

What does everyone think of Kaia?

Love it, and I would use it myself, but I fear it might be getting trendy. If you're trying to avoid a trendy name (as I am) one good thing to do is to look at Kaia for each year of the last ten and see whether it's rising or falling, and how quickly. Also, think of alternate spellings and combine those to get a true sense of how popular it is - I suspect that Kaia is not the most popular spelling.

I think it seems more popular that it is because it's a two syllable K name and really blends in with the trend crowd. It also is similar to Maya/Maia which is pretty popular.

It's actually been one of my very favorites for quite awhile. If I had a baby today, I no longer think it would be my choice, but I do still like it.

I think of it as meaning "ocean" or "sea," a female version of the male name/word Kai. It's a name that has meaning and usage in many different languages.

And I meant to say that the meaning I think of is the Hawaiian one. Someone I forgot to mention that. :P

I am not really sure how I feel about Kaia. I think it's pretty and I like the way it sounds, but I'm not sure if I'd ever use it myself. But I love Chaya - it's my sister's Hebrew name and one of the prettiest and most meaningful Hebrew names out there. =D

It's the feminine form of my boyfriend's name (bias)... so I love it :)!

Eh. It's not awful, but it feels a little trendy/cutesy.

Actually, Maya feels less trendy/cutesy to me, go figure. Kaia just seems really insubstantial. It feels to me like it goes with names like Kaylee or Kadence, and those just don't seem like names that will age well.

I think I like Maya better because I associate it with Maya Angelou. Kaia (personal perception, here) sounds like someone on a reality TV show.

Caia's actually worse, it looks like "caca." But the K is probably part of what made it feel trendy to me.

I'm not arguing with you, but I don't think we're going to agree on this name. You clearly love it, where to me it's at best an "eh" -- I don't think it's completely and totally horrible, but it's still not a name that I would ever consider. There's no arguing taste, and all of that.

Are you pronouncing it like KAY-a or KYE-a?

The only Kaia I've ever known pronounced it the first way.

I'm really not a fan of K names..
Kaia seems a bit wishy washy to me..
Like it's more of a sound than a name.
Anyway, it's great that you've found a name you both love :-) 698 is nothing!

oh one more thing, i prefer Kasia -kas-ee-uh
which is only on letter removed. probably no of consequence but just thought i'd mention it!

Kaia, Kaya & Kia are all rising in the ssa stats but i dont guess it's much to worry about as they are so low down.
