Does everyone feel like they go one way or another with this?
I hate the idea of naming my child something from the top 100 list...
but of course the name we picked for a girl is in the top 10 which makes me go crazy...
Samantha (its a family name but i find it dated and boring)

I go more for names you dont hear often...
Jocelyn, Rhiannon for instance

I also like names from books and movies
Arwen is my name so of course I like that kind of thing
hehe

Also what to you think of the name Theodore (nn Teddy for a child, Ted for a teen/adult)
Being a history major i like the Roosevelt's
:)

i like names that are unusual enough that she will be the only one in her class/school with it, but not so far out there that no one can say or spell it.

i really like theodore and teddy is really cute for a kid, but i think ted is the most bland name possible, other than john.

i taught a high school student named Rhiannon and no one could ever say or spell it and when i asked her if she was named after the song, she rolled her eyes as she nodded. none of her friends had ever heard of the song and she considered it really old fashioned because the song was so out of reach of her generation.

LOL. Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks... so old fashioned and so out of reach.

I, at 32 years old, suddenly feel like I should be looking up potential nursing homes. *eyeroll*

I like older names, but I'm not fond of many american names. And if one more person from my generation tells me how Aubrey is only a girls name, I'll smack them.

regardless, I don't like Jocelyn, nor Rhiannon.... I think Arwen is cute, but that's also my brother's dog's name, thus I could never name a kid that.

I like Teddy, but not enough to name my kid that.

Samanatha is okay... I had a friend named that once, and she was a bitch... but I don't jude all names on her so... It could be nice.

Ha. I thought I had read "Audrey" before I saw it was a B and not a D.

the first time I ever heard the name Aubrey was when a boy in my 3rd grade class revealed it was his middle mane. (and someone else in the class thought he said "oven".)

At first I thought "you either go the unique out there way or you go normal" so I compromised and decided normal first name and a unique middle name.
That way its a win win.

Theodore is a name I don't see much at all actually.
I think its cute though.

I love unusual names and if I ever have another child I will definitely try to choose a name that is not climbing up the charts. Then again, you just cannot always predict these things, and if you truly love a name, I say use it.

As for the name Theodore (LOVE the nn Teddy) I think it's wonderful. :)

I absolutely LOVE Theodore. I don't like the NN Ted but that would be his choice as an adult. Theo is also another option.

i go for more traditional (emily, amelia jacob, luke, etc.). lately i've been a little more into "unusual" names, but by unusual, i mean they're not common in the united states but are in other countries (ex: annelise & maren, both traditional danish names).

i really like the name thedore, but i'd use theo for a nn i think. i like teddy, too, though. a friend of mine goes by teddy.

I love Jocelyn.

I don't like naking anything from the top 100 really... most of the names I like are traditional & getting trendy, but the ones I would actually consider using are traditional yet unusual to hear that often.

Unfortunately my favourite name is Amelia.. number 14 over here arggghhh!
I absolutely do not like new trendy names that have jumped into the charts recently...
Mackenzie, Jayden etc... i think just sound made up.

I lie Theodore nn Teddy...probably because it reminds me of Laurie from Little Women ♥ but i prefer Theo. Ted does nothing for me.

haha, i was almost named Arwen, too. my mother was righteously against it, however. too bad, so sad. it's a lovely name. :D

I like old names that aren't really used these days. actually, I like most old, classic names, but I would only use one on one of my kids if it's not very common these days. if someone's looking for naming advice and their style includes anything trendy/crappy, I have nothing to say. but if someone likes old-but-common names, I can actually recommend some (even if I would never use them myself) without puking.

I like traditional uncommon. I was named Jennifer and have experienced every possible drawback to having a common name and really want to avoid that. And perhaps because of my experience I don't even find myself having to reject popolar names due to popularity. Those rarely appeal to me in the first place. I am much more naturally drawn to names I don't hear every day and don't see written in every other post in these communities. They still have to be real names though. Traditional ecclectic is what I call my style.

Girls faves: Calista, Nimue, Daphne, Lana, Tabitha, Freya
Boys faves: Cedric, Felix, Tavish, Jasper, Theodore

So I do like Theodore a lot, it's on my own short list. I prefer the nn Theo myself, but Ted/dy is nice too.
