Dec. 15th, 2006 10:45 pmFor the name Devin do you think male, female, or both? Also, do you prefer Devin or Devon?
I've heard both used as both male and female names. Personally, I like both better on a girl. And the names sound different to me, Devin pronounced DEV-in and Devon pronounced DEV-un. Not sure which I like better.

Date: 2006-12-17 01:46 pm (UTC)I just thought it was interesting that you thought that the spelling of Devon was too masculine and I wanted to share that of the three Devin, Deven and Devon's that I know, the girl was the Devon. That's all.

Date: 2006-12-15 10:46 pm (UTC)I've heard it used for both. I think of Devon as the girls' version and Devin as the boys' version, but I hate it for both these days. I prefer the -in spelling, though.

Date: 2006-12-16 03:05 am (UTC)Anyway.. I personally don't like the name, but that's because I know some people who come from a region in Australia where luncheon meat is called devon.... so it seems like a slimy, meaty name to me. But if I distance myself from that, then I think it's nice for a boy, and sounds pretty disgusting on a girl... maybe if I met a female Devin it would grow on me.
Not sure what spelling I like best, probably Devon but Devin is ok too. Not Devan, Deven or Devyn though.

Date: 2006-12-16 03:57 am (UTC)I think I prefer it on a boy, only because the shortened'dev' is not feminine at all. However I only know it on girls...
I prefer Devon, but then that looks familiar to me as I'm english and Devon is a county in England.
