For the name Devin do you think male, female, or both? Also, do you prefer Devin or Devon?

I've heard both used as both male and female names. Personally, I like both better on a girl. And the names sound different to me, Devin pronounced DEV-in and Devon pronounced DEV-un. Not sure which I like better.

I think it is always a boys' name (even if people name their girls those names). But anyway, if for a girl, I'd say definitely not Devon. It looks too masculine.

Funny, I know a Deven, Devin and a Devon, and the girl is the Devon.

I don't get how that's funny. It doesn't change my opinion whatsoever.

I am not asking you to change your opinion.

I just thought it was interesting that you thought that the spelling of Devon was too masculine and I wanted to share that of the three Devin, Deven and Devon's that I know, the girl was the Devon. That's all.

I love the name Devin, spelled like that. I hope it stays a boy's name. I like Evan and Kevin too.

I used to love Devon spelt with an O but now that I know someone with an I, I love it that way.

And it's definitely a guy's name.

I look at it as a masculine name. My sons named is Devon, so of course I prefer that spelling.

But, I could see Devin on a girl.

Devon. All boy. I despise this name on a girl.

i prefer Devan the most. Devan being female for me.

Distinctly male. It used to be my favorite boys' name as a kid.

I've heard it used for both. I think of Devon as the girls' version and Devin as the boys' version, but I hate it for both these days. I prefer the -in spelling, though.

And I pronounce them all the same way - DEV-inn.

When my SO and I first talked about having children, he told me his favorite name for a girl was Devin, and it's grown on me since then.

All the Devin/Devons I've known have been guys, though.

I've always seen it as a boys name but I guess a little girl can wear it too and I much preffer Devin to Devon. Devon makes me think of some perfume or something.

my friends little brother is Devyn, but i think it looks feminine like that, I prefer Devin for a boy. Devyn for a girl.

Erm... deja vu? I feel like this was posted extremely recently.

Anyway.. I personally don't like the name, but that's because I know some people who come from a region in Australia where luncheon meat is called devon.... so it seems like a slimy, meaty name to me. But if I distance myself from that, then I think it's nice for a boy, and sounds pretty disgusting on a girl... maybe if I met a female Devin it would grow on me.

Not sure what spelling I like best, probably Devon but Devin is ok too. Not Devan, Deven or Devyn though.

I prefer Devon and I prefer it on a boy. I have a good friend (male) named Devon. It really doesn't seem suitable on a girl at all to me.

I can hear the difference between Dev-un and Dev-in but they do sound like different accetns saying the same name to me.. I wouldnt think they were spelt differently.

I think I prefer it on a boy, only because the shortened'dev' is not feminine at all. However I only know it on girls...

I prefer Devon, but then that looks familiar to me as I'm english and Devon is a county in England.

Definitly I picture it as a male name.
Out of the two I like Devon better.
