[identity profile] randmberta.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Alright, I gave in and joined this community...I've read it for quite some time, but never had the urge to post anything.

Well, I'm pregnant, and we're picking out names. Our boys name is set, it's Riley Aaron. (both family names). But our girls name has been a little trickier.

My favorite girls' name is Storie. (Also spelt Story,Stori, Storey). But I want some opinions on it...and I know this community will be brutally honest :) What spelling do you prefer?

Also, I don't know what middle name to put with it...Surname is Hope.

I prefer the spelling: Storie.
Camden or Camren (or various spellings) I think would go well as a middle name. Or something along those lines.

storie thyme. ohhh lololol. that would be funny.

But in all seriousness, storey/storie.

Riley Aaron is a nice name.

Usually I don't like unusual names, but I think Storie sounds nice. I prefer the spelling Storie.

I LOVE STORY. I think it's an absolutely wonderful name and it holds great connotation with me.
And Camden would go well as a middle name, as would Annelise.

Good choices in names!

My daughter has a Storie in her ballet class, I've never heard it before. She calls her Storie Tory, as they are four and like to rhyme things.

I love your boys name! It's great to see Riley on a boy again.

I don't like Story (or any other spelling). I just see too much teasing.

Date: 2006-12-15 07:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] angelovernh.livejournal.com
Well, I would avoid Story actually since your last name is also a noun. But, it's your baby and if you love it, go for it! ;)

I'd go for something like Melissa, Alisa, Louisa.. well, ok, a feminine sounding three syllable name for the middle to balance it out. Just my opinion.

I think Stori or Story are reasonable spellings. Best of luck.

Hrm.. all the Rileys I know who were born in the last two years are girls. I guess it's a gender neutral name now. Maybe you could use Riley for either boy or girl.

I actually really like Story [that's my favorite spelling]. Did you get it from Lady In The Water or somewhere else? Just curious. :-)

Congratulations!

Storie Elizabeth is my fav with that spelling
also if you choose to use Riley for a girl you could still go with RILEY ERIN
and just change the spelling of the middle name to the female version

AND I LOVE STORIE! I prefer -ie at the end of girls' names and I just love it. It's kind of in the same category as Memorie to me. I just love love love it. LOVE!!! I've often considered it myself.

WELCOME!!! lol

I wouldn't go for Story or Storey, as they are both nouns. (Storey as in level of a building is spelt with an 'e' in the UK, but I'm not sure about the US.)

Storie is the better spelling, I think. I don't think much of the spelling Stori, but I dislike any spelling ending in 'i' where 'y' or 'ie' is more common - i.e., Naomi is obviously fine because that's how it's usually spelt, but Vicki, Luci, etc, look wrong.

But, it's your baby and if you love it, go for it! ;)

I don't understand this attitude. The baby has to live with it forever and be called the name, so if someone wants to name their kid something horrible (not that Story is even nearly as bad as loads of other things I've heard), I think people SHOULD speak up and not disclaim any opinion with that line.

Anyway, Story misspelt just looks like a misspelt word and people will constantly misspell it Story, regardless what you choose. And Story (or any variation) certainly won't get you the oddest looks from other people with the current naming trends, but it's not great.

I think Story is an awful first name. I cannot imagine calling a grown woman Story. It sounds really stupid, sorry.

I preffer the spelling Storie, the -ie makes it seem so much more femenine and as for middle names I am just going to list some off the top of my head and I hope I am of some help =)

Storie Sophia Hope
Storie Andrea Hope
Storie Mysti Hope
Storie Allison Hope
Storie Maddison Hope
Storie Amelia Hope
Storie Camille Hope
Storie Jennifer Hope
Storie Vesper Hope (kinda sounds weird but I like the name Vesper)
Storie Lily Hope
Storie Lillian Hope
Storie Elyse Hope
Storie Lorraine Hope
Storie Cassandra Hope
Storie Stacia Hope (or other versions of the spelling)
Story Maria Hope
Storie Katherine Hope
Storie Elizabeth Hope
Storie Belle Hope
Storie Tallulah Hope
Storie Cameron Hope
Storie Jezebelle Hope

and that's all I can think of! I hope they help at least rule out the names you don't want and maybe you'll find some that you like =)

My husband and I talked about Story (and I like it best spelled that way) for a long time. We both like it based on the meaning, but we rejected it because it felt very dramatic for our style, and we couldn't think of any sibling names that sounded right with it.

The problem with Story Hope is that it sounds a little bit too much like a character name, rather than a person name. If she grows into it, great, but I can't see it on a low-key person.

I knew someone whose last name was Story (not sure how she spelled it though). She changed her first name to Tella. I kid you not. But actually everyone knows her as Tella and it really fits her. Sorry, this was totally not helpful to you but you reminded me of it. =D

I think Story is pretty cool. I like it less with the last name Hope though. It's borderline cheesey. Oh, a story of hope, how nice... but Story itself is interesting and original.

From: [identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com
I like Story as a middle name, but I don't like it at all as a first name. That is because I wouldn't actually like to CALL someone Story, but it has a nice meaning so it would be ok to be part of the name, just not what she's called on a daily basis.

However.. in your case unfortunately I don't like the name. It just doesn't go well with the last name. Too many real words... like "a story of hope" or something.

The only spelling I don't like is Storey because it seems like the floor of a building.

Well Riley Aaron doesnt go in my opinion,it's annoying to say. I do like Riley though, even though it's trendy.
Storie is... um... a rather ridiculous name i'm afraid. It's a word not a name. If i was called Storie i'd hate my parents.

However, I love the name Hope and it's a trés cool surname.

Storie is a very cool name, it's been on my list for years. Your last name does present a bit of a challenge but I say go for what you love and commit to it. :)

Sorry, but I don't care for your boy's choice at all.
