It's an urban legend that is on name boards all the time. I mean how many people could be out there with these names! They seem to be reported all over the place.

Date: 2006-12-15 04:52 am (UTC)Especially with that pronunciation, I'm guessing this may be a Khmer name (from Cambodia). There are a lot of Khmer names that begin with "Soph-" (Sopheary, Sophal, Sophany, etc.) and apparently "ph" is pronounced as p rather than f in these names.
I don't know what it means, but judging from the names that contain it, it is probably something like lovely (both in the sense of physically attractive and in the sense of gracious and well-mannered).
