A girl in my Gym and Math Class is named Meaghanne Florabelle. She's a relatively nice person but, ack. The spelling of her first name hurts my eyes.

Oh, and do you guys prefer
Gillian, or
Jillian ?

The girl's name: Oh dear. Embellished to death. :(

I like Jillian better.

The middle name hurts my eyes too...

I like Jillian better, also.

Here's how I see it:

Gillian seems masculine to me. With the possible nickname of Giles.

Jillian seems femanine to me. With the nicknames of Jill or Jilly/ie.

Gillian! So, so, so much more. It's actually pretty much my number one name for a girl... maybe I'm biased. I really love it. Gillian is a lot more classical, too. Jillian is kind of like a desperate attempt to formalise Jill, which is a nice enough name, but not very "dignified" (mostly associated with younger people and 'Jack and Jill').

Yeah, I love Gillian.

Ha, how did you ever guess? I also went to school with a girl called Gillian who was one of the loveliest people you could hope to meet, so it has nothing but positive associations for me.

You're definitely not alone! And anyway, who cares what other people think? With a name like Gillian that isn't going to be harmful (it's not like you're saying, "hey, how about the name Klamadia? That won't cause problems, will it? It looks pretty!") it really doesn't matter, I don't think.

any nick names would end up looking like boy names (Gill, Gilly). it also makes me think of giligan. and no girl wants that as a nickname.

I think jillie is really cute for a girl though.

Ha, seriously, show me a boy whose nickname is Gilly and I will concede. But until then... no. Gillian is very much a girls' name.

Jillie is cute for a girl under the age of eight, maybe.
