While talking to a friend about names earlier, I realized that almost everyone on my dad's side of the family has a traditional Danish name for either their first or middle name, or at least some variant of one (maybe the spelling is changed, etc.) I googled "Danish baby names" and found these, which I think I might add to my list for the future. What do you think?

Girls:
Maren
Annelise

Boys:
Soren
Anders
Aren

Annelise and Maren are both definitely getting added to my list and Annelise, especially, has a real possibility of being used when I have kids. The boys' names are getting added to my list but only as middle names. I don't see myself using them as firsts unless I fall in love with them a little more.

I love Anders. My husband's name is Andrew, so it'd be a nice nod if we hadn't used Andrew for my son's middle name. Living in Southern California, though, I think a lot of people would assume it was Andres.

I also like the name Jens, but it feels too feminine to me, so the name that's actually on my list is Jensen.

I'm at least half-danish (my dad's parents were both born in Denmark), but we don't really know where my mom's side of the family is from - either Denmark or Germany - but nobody's really sure. I'd never really thought about using Danish names, but when I was listing all the cousins/aunts/uncles on my dad's side of the family, I realized that with names like Otto, Erik, Kiersten, Catherine, Knut, etc, that it could probably be considered somewhat of a tradition by now.

My middle name was originally going to be Karen, which I found out yesterday is a Danish form of Katherine. Then my dad decided he liked Rebekka (also apparently a Danish/Scandanavian spelling?), but my mom made him compromise with Rebecca. My brother's name is Michael Paul, both different spellings of Danish names (Mikkel and Poul - and I have distant relatives named both of those names, apaprently). I just thought it was cool that I didn't even know about this tradition until I was 19, haha.

When I found it, it said that it was the "Danish name for the Norse God of Thunder".
