[identity profile] 8fairy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My name is Brittany and I am 17weeks pregnant. I am 19years old, this is my first child. I have come to find out that choosing a name for your baby is one of the hardest things you will ever have to do.
I have decided on a boys name I love: Landen Cole Fowler

The girl's name however I am having difficulties with. The middle name has to be Shannon. It's a name that is very special to me and my family. I like Lilly, but not Lillian, just Lilly.
But I'm not to sure about Lilly Shannon Fowler.

I will probably have houndreds of ideas before the baby actually gets here. I tend to change my mind alot.

I would love to here feedback about these names, good or bad, I can handle it. Thanks

The names are nice, but I'd spell them Landon and Lily. Less of a mouthful than Landon-with-an-ee-en and Lily-with-two-elles.

Landon is a common enough name (ranked #60 for 2005, probably higher now) that the standard spelling is the spelling people will assume. Imo, having to explain that the spelling not standard is an annoyance better avoided when you can.

I agree with you. Landen looks better to me too.

It just reminds me of that company, Land's End. Landen ---> Land en --> Land End.

Also I my first thought about the -en was that it looks more like a lastname, maybe partially because Landon is the one I see and the time, and also because the -en ending makes me think of lastnames like Larsen. I think Landon sounds a lot better too (I know Landen and Landon can sound the same to some people, but to others it seems like Landen is forcing a regional accent or something). But whatever. It's not the biggest deal, at least you aren't going with Landynn or something.

At least Landen is no longer "Land on..." which is one of the things I dislike about the name. However I have only seen it spelled as Landon before, so that would be the standard and assumed spelling.

Spelling Landon as Landon doesn't make it different, it makes it botched. Landon is pretty popular, and when he went to school, if there were any other Landons, he'd still be referred to as Landen F. Not to mention, if you call "Landen!" from across the playground, it won't sound any different from the other 5 Landons that come running.
Not only that, but it really isn't all that 'different.' I scan baby announcements regularly, and see Landen more than I'd like to.

I would personally stay away from anything flower-related, i.e. Lily, with your last name being an anagram for flower and sounding vaguely like it.

Like, do you want your kid explaining that no, her name is not Lily Flower for the rest of her life?

That's the first thing I thought of too, which is a shame because I do like the name Lily. Lillianna? Lila?

i think lilly shannon sounds fine, the flow isn't pitch perfect but it's still a beautiful name. there are other variants of lilly, such as lillith or liliana (which i personally like), or if you want to get "out there," lily could be short for lilac. anyway, good luck you picked out beautiful names so far!

I'd definetely spell it Landon, so he's not constantly correcting people all of this life. I like lilly, it's a little over used for my tastes, but pretty.

I also think Liliana is very pretty.

Landen Cole Fowler Image (http://photobucket.com/)
but I´d prefer landon Image (http://photobucket.com/)

Lilly Shannon Fowler Image (http://photobucket.com/)
but as [livejournal.com profile] cluckydude maybe it could be confusing

Welcome.

I like your boys' name choice. :)

Not a fan of Lilly. My sister's name is Shannan. Maybe Sarah Shannan? Sarah is my name, but I always thought our names went together nicely, lol. :-p

I suck at suggestions.

I'm 19 too, and I can't wait to have kids! When are you due?

I only like Landon, not Landen. I think Landon Cole Fowler is a great name.
I like Lily but it's one of my friend's cats so I have a hard time seeing it on a human.

Landon Cole is perfectly fine.

I'm actually with you on the Lilly with 2 Ls thing. I really love it that way and I'm not crazy about Lillian, so I decided if I ever used it I'd use Lillith. Otherwise Lilly as a full name just seems kind of weird because Lily with one L is a first name on its own because of the flower. Hope that wasn't confusing. Also if you had a full name (Lillith, Lilia, whatever) I don't think the Lily Flower thing would be too much.

Also, some names Lilly could be short for other than Lilian or Lilana:
Lilith
Lilia
Lila
Delilah
Lilja (prn lil-ya, kind of like Anya or Katya. It's icelandic)
You could probably get away with using Lilia or Lillia and pronouncing it like "Lilya" though.
Jalila- I'm not sure how this should be pronounced though
Lucilla
Willa (although I guess with something this short it wouldn't be worth it)
Lydia (but I guess Lydie would make more sense than Lilly)
Layla/Leila
Elisabeth: I've heard of Elisabeths before who go by Lily or Lili

I have a friend who's daughter is Olivia, and goes by Lili. =)

I like Lily (one l not two) but not Lillian.
It's very popular at the moment though, very much a name of the decade i'd say. Without a doubt your daughter will know plenty of other Lily's.. if that's not a problem for you then go ahead :-)

Lily Shannon goes fine in my opinion.

Lilly Shannon sounds is beautiful, though I prefer it spelled Lily but that's just me :)

I thought your last name was Flower when I first read it so personally I'd stay away from Lily in case others make the same mistake.

I prefer "Landon" and "Lily." "Landen" looks too made-up to me, and I've just never liked "Lilly." Lil(l)y Shannon is very pretty. Landon Cole is nice as well, though Landon is not really my style.

I like Landen alot and spelt that way. I HATE spelling names like everyone else does.

Lily is cute but Im sure if I like it with Shannon. It doesnt flow right.

I saw "Lily Flower" first thing too! I agree - stay away from flower names because of your last name.

Maybe you like some of the following:
Carys Shannon [CARE-iss]
Ayla Shannon [AY-lah]
Natalie Shannan
Leila/Layla/Laila Shannon (whichever spelling you prefer)
Isabelle Shannon
Ciara Shannon
Kyra Shannon
Sienna Shannon
Marissa Shannon
Ariel Shannon
Aria Shannon
Lyra/Lyla Shannon
Gabrielle Shannon

Landon Cole is very nice.

I agree with the others in that Landon is a much better spelling. But yes, I like Landon Cole.

Again, with the herd, I think Lily Fowler is too much like Lily Flower. What about.....

Ava Shannon
Hailey Shannon
Mia Shannon
Rachel Shannon
Zoe Shannon
Avery Shannon
Maya Shannon

Just some more suggestions. Good luck with your pregnancy!
