Name of the week for my 14 week old fetus is Sadie. Problem is, I don't think it pairs well with the middle name our first daughter is destined to have- Lillian. Help?

Lillian is in honor of my husband's late aunt. We are willing to consider using variations on that sort of name, though. What do you think? Does Lily, Liliana, or something else sound better next to Sadie?

Is there some sort of other first name we could use, with Sadie as a reasonable nickname? I know Sadie is linked with Sarah- but I can't stand the name Sarah. Anything else?

And, generally, what do you think of the name Sadie? Our last name ends in the assy sound, lol.

Thank you!

I really like Sadie. The only reason I rejected it for use on a future daughter is the fact that we are Jewish and Sadie sounds too close to Zaidy (grampa) for my ears "Sadie, give Zaidy a hug" see?

But other than that it's a gorgeous name. Personally I don't think Sadie Lily is a good combo, I like Sadie Lillian(a) better

I would never consider Sadie myself (sounds a bit too "cutesy" for my ears), but I don't mind the name.

And there is nothing wrong with Sadie Lillian. Is there any particular reason you don't like the combo? It seems just fine to me.

Could Sadie be a nn for something longer maybe?

I don't think that Sadie Lillian goes good, but I do think that sounds better than Lily or Liliana. Sadie is very "nickname" to me though I'm having a hard time comming up with anything other than Sarah that you could use it as a nick name for.

Congrats on the baby btw - I'm due the day after you (accoding to your icon). :)

> what do you think of the name Sadie?

I don't care for Sadie because I can't get past its visual and aural resemblance to the word SADIST. Sorry, I hope this isn't hurtful...

Sadie can be short for Mercedes or Sadrienne or Sadriel.

Sadrienne and Sadriel sound funny with Lillian, though.

And Sadriel is some sort of demon or something.

Sadie reminds me of my boyfriend's old dog.

Im not fond of the name but when i was saying it outloud, i got an ick taste in my mouth going sadie assy. I dont like the phonetics of the two together. I have this huge thing with first and last names sounding good together, a middle name can be anything, but the first and last have to sound right together in my opinion.

:)

Sadie has grown on me since my cousin named her daughter Sadie Rose.

I think it sounds just fine with Lillian.

I like it, but I'm not sure I could use a nickname as a full first name -- and I don't like Sarah either. It's also apparently really popular for dogs (http://www.geocities.com/dog_names/most_popular_dog_names.html).

I think Sadie Lillian sounds best of the choices you listed.

I definitely think it's a cute nn, but I think it would be a hard first name to grow into. With the way nicknames go, you don't even necessarily need it to make sense. My step-mother's name is Yvonne, but everyone calls her Sam.
And I think Sadie Liliana sounds better because the extra syllable makes it sound less abrupt.
Congratulations on the baby!

I like Sadie Lilia better than Sadie Lilian or Sadia Liliana.

I don't like Sadie very much myself, as it reminds me of dogs, but I think it would be cute as a nickname. NOT as a full name... It doesn't exactly sound very professional, does it? Sadie Lillian sounds nice though.

I haven't seen anyone suggest Isadora, though. It's a bit of a stretch from the sound point, maybe, but if you plan on exclusively calling her Sadie and introducing her as Sadie I don't see the problem. Isadora Lilian is lovely.

It could also be short for (other than Isadora and Mercedes)Sandra, Sandrine, (and if you were okay with names that sounded a bit like Sara) Serena, Serafina, Sidonie/Sidonia

I don't especially like Sadie but it's not bad, it's not very usual which is good..
I really hate Sarah too...
i'm thinking Anastasia? I know that's a far strech but it was the first thing that popped into my mind.. and i heart it.

Just adding a voice to the general crowd: I think Sadie Lillian sounds lovely. And I'm a reluctant fan of the name. I think it's cute and not too popular, but... "sexy Sadie". Maybe my Beatles love is overcoming me too much, but if I ever met someone called Sadie (and I haven't yet), I would just think "sexy Sadie" and probably have a hard time not calling them that. I love the song, and it's definitely not one of their most well-known so you most likely wouldn't have a problem. It's probably just me.

Congratulations on the pregnancy, by the way!
