What do you think of Hayden for a girl?

my SO is thinking about us having a baby... we are wanting to get married asap anyway and he wants to have a little one to complete the family. Which is fine. But I'm thinking of using Hayden as a unsex name Hayden Anthony (SO's name)for a boy and Hayden Elise for a girl.

Whatcha think?

I know of people who use Hayden for a girl.

I personally feel all the 'den names are way overused though.

Ew. I think Hayden is definitely ALL boy.

The cheerleader on the TV show HEROES has the name Hayden in real life.

I quite like the name for both. I can imagine that you will get a lot of "I will shoot myself if I see another -aden" comments.

I'm not one that thinks names should be gender-specific. However, beyond that, consider the overall popularity of Hayden and the other den names.

If you don't mind your daughter sharing her name with a zillion other kids, mostly boys, go for it.

See to me Hayden isn't even a first name. It's the name of one of the freshman dorms at NYU. It seems like a lot of names that are popular and/or trendy these days have some building, center, or street with the same name at NYU. Some examples: Waverly, Avery, and Hayden.

I don't know if it's popular but it has that trendy '-ly' ending.

I was actually considering Avery for my son. I didnt realize it was becoming trendy?

I love the name Hayden for a boy, and a girl. I was actually thinking of the name Hayden for a girl if that's what we're having. I don't even mind how popular the -den names are, as I'm stuck on Braden for a boy! :)

i'm really not a fan of unisex names. I love Girly girl girly names.
Hayden is okay, it's trendy and blah and will date badly though... it will be a name of the 2000's

I wouldn't mind it too much on a boy..and the combo Hayden Anthony flows well. I love the middle name Elise but not with Hayden.

I think it works for either gender, personally. I like it better for a boy, though.

I don't like it for a girl or a boy.

To me, Hayden is still very much a unisex name. I think of two actors - one male, one female (Christiansen and Panettiere). Names are rarely truly unisex for me personally these days. I like the idea of having the female and male versions ready. :) It's a cute name.

I can just see "Hayden" as a boys name...

I can see it as a unisex name and I love the way both middle names flow with it but to be honest I am kind of burnt out on the 'den names. Not saying it's not pretty though I just hear it a lot.

Oh, Elise is so pretty. I don't suppose you would consider it as a first name, would you? It's elegant and sophisticated, and really versatile too. I can imagine an Elise in a lab coat or a power suit, in an artist's smock or a chef's toque, bandaging an animal's paw or soothing a crying child - it really seems like it would fit no matter what she dreams to be. And it seems like a name that could grow with her, too, sounding adorable on a little 4 year old and yet still absolutely dignified on a wise old grandma.

I don't like it as a name in general. But if you have to use it as a name, I like it better on a boy.

I'm not a huge fan of the "-ayden" names, not because they're trendy or overused, but just because I dont like them. But, if I had to choose, I think it would actually sound better on a girl. Good luck with conceiving!

I rather like the name Hayden Anthony.

Hayden on a girl... not so fond of. But the similar-sounding Hayley doesn't really go well with Elise. So, if you like it, go for it.

Elise is a pretty name too. :)

Haha, it's funny you posted this question, because just last night I had a dream that my cousins baby, Hayden, was a girl instead of a boy, and (s)he was named Hayden Hailey Anne...

I think it's pretty either way.

I don't like it much on a boy although it's acceptable, but I really hate it on a girl. I think it's just so much more harsh than the other -aden names. Although I don't like Caden or Jayden on a girl, I can grudgingly see how it could work, but there's something about the "H" that makes it sound masculine to me... maybe just because i know lots of men with Hayden as their last name.

Anthony and Elise are great names though.
