[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_xasphyxiax_/ posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello I am new here, well I have been watching the community for some time and I finally decided to post. Firstly, I am married and my husband's name is David Andrew and my name is Monica Eloisa (Elise). So you can say we have fairly common names. I used to want to name my chlidren crazy names or names of authors I liked but my husband wants a nice simple name. I am not pregnant yet but either way I prepare (who knows it might happen in the next 5 years and that isn't as long as it seems!) so I made a little lists of names that we have agreed on. They may change over time but for now we are set on these:

Emma Lucia (loo-cee- ah)
Emma Irene
Emma Catherine
Emma Christina

Leeloo Sophia
Leeloo Katarina
Leeloo Christina

Melinda Christina
Melinda Lucia
just Melinda (no middle name)
Melinda Hellena

that's for girls, your input in greatly appreciated.

If we have a boy I have decided that we're naming him Benjamin Andrew Stoltz (Stoltz being the last name of course) but suggestions are welcomed! My father is called Edgar Omar and his father is called Carl Franklin. I don't like either of them for a baby but maybe as a middle name or something.

Thanks!

I love Melinda, but prefer it with shorter middle names. It does sound pretty with Christina, though.

Leeloo has a pretty strong association for me and not something I'd particularly want to name a kid after, plus I don't care for the name. Emma is pretty but it's one of those names I'm a little tired of hearing all the time.

Of these choices, I like Emma Lucia and Melinda Christina best. Leeloo seems like it'd be a very hard name to live with.

I really hate Emma. It's SO popular, number one name...boring... i know far too many.

What about Amelia Lucia?

Leeloo is odd... but I like Sophia.
Melinda is not my style at all.

Emma is just way too boring for me. Sick of seeing it everywhere.

Leeloo is really odd. I'm not sure what I think of that. I guess it just really sounds more appropriate as a nn to me. It's not the kind of name I can picture myself writing on blind job applications for example.

Melinda is a nice choice though. It's a good in-between. Not totally bland and overused (Emma) or totally out there. Just a nice name that most everyone would recognize, be able to say and spell and remember. And it would be highly unusual that there would be two Melinda's in the same classroom.

I really agree with this. My criticism of Emma is just that it's overused. I helped out on a kids camp this year and of 50 kids(boys and girls), there were maybe about 8 Emmas - far more than any other name. And I'm in Australia so apparently it's worldwide in its popularity now.

Leeloo sounds silly to me, I hope that didn't come out offensively. It just sounds like a fun nickname or a "joke" sort of a name, not a real name. It could be a nickname for Lucia.. so even if you used something like Emma Lucia you could call her Leeloo.

Melinda is great, for the same reasons - it's a happy medium - not too common, not too out there. I agree very much with this comment on why Melinda is good. I love names that everyone recognises but few people have.

I really hate Emma. Sorry :(

Leeloo is umm...rather uhh...odd.

And Melinda, well...I don't really like that much. It's okay, not my favourite but it's okay.

Also you said your open for suggestions for boys names what about girls?

I like Emma, but it is very popular. I don't dislike Melinda, but it's not really on the top of my list. It's a nice enough name.

Leeloo just seems...weird to me. Seems more like a nickname than a name. I'm not really a fan.

I think my favorite of the names up there is Emma Lucia.

I love Emma. I wish it wasn't so darn popular.

Not crazy about Leeloo at all. Seems more like a nickname then an actual name to me.

I like Melinda. That's pretty.

Have you thought about spelling it Lelu? I think that might be easier on the kid.

Even though Emma's popular, I love it still because I love Jane Austen [early 19th century British author].

I was thinking the same thing about the spelling.
Even Leelou would take away from the babyish look to it, in my opinion.

Emma and Melinda are both pretty. Leeloo is nice in theory, but that child would probably get made fun of a lot.

Hi, and welcome.
I think you're the first person I've ever 'met' that has a name very much similar to mine. I'm Monica Lyse...nice to meet you. :)

Leeloo?! That's... um... okay I won't talk about it!
I love love LOVE all of your middle names but I really don't like Emma or Melinda. And Leeloo doesn't even sound like a name to me, it sounds more like... a siren or something...

For me Emma is just so boring, it's been very popular for a long time!

Leeloo sounds like a pet name and not a real name.

Melinda is nice, I like it with Lucia best.

Why not use your middle name as a first or middle name for a daughter? It's such a lovely name it'd be a shame not to!
Melinda Eloisa/Elise for example.

Your boy choice is nice, I like Benjamin but I just don't think I'd be able to use it because it's been very popular for a long time.
