[identity profile] ashadelic.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I asked my husband this question tonight just for fun, and he had no answers. So, I figured I'd turn to you ladies because I'm positive you will have answers for me, and lots of great ones at that. Here's the question:

If you could only choose a WORD with no historical root as a name to name your child (girl or boy) what word/s would you use? (Language of origin doesnt matter, so long as it's not a word that's also used as a name i.e. Rose, Flora, Dawn-- and any words that mean that in other languages, such as Aurora means Dawn)

Here are my choices:

Prism- girl
Zanja- boy (Zanja is the spanish word for ditch)

Yeah I love that word. I also love the French word, Papillon. Too bad English has to be so icky!

I also love Paloma (Spanish for dove) but that's already used as a name. :)

Serendipity. It's my favorite word. I love the sound of it, the meaning, pretty much everything. There's no way I'd ever use if for a child though. Maybe a dog.
Crinoline, Carousel, Novella, Lightning...

Apart from the historical virtue names like Mercy, I'd probably go with a botanical like Zinnia or Dahlia.

Miel: means Honey in French; or Etoile, with a forward accent on the first 'e' means Star, with an accent on both e's means Starry.
