Martin is probably a bit more cutting edge, and will get a lot of people (non namers especially) turning up their noses at it as an ugly old man name. But it's one of the names I predict will be chart climbing within a few years. Use it now and I think you'd be ahead of trends.
Colin is nice and would probably get a mostly positive response. It's a good name that isn't too common, but is still easily recognized by most people.
I don't mind either. I have a cousin called Martin, but I love Colin Meloy of The Decemberists... I don't know, you have to make them work with a good middle name.
I think I like Martin more. But I have a friend who has an almost one-year-old named Martin and I have to admit when I first heard that was his name is sounded like an old name for a baby.
How are you pronouncing Colin? Is is Co-lin (Co as in Co-ed - only example I can think of! As in Collin Powell if that helps) or Caw-lin (Caw to rhyme with 'saw' more like Coll-in). In the UK it's the latter pronounciation which I prefer.
