Colin or Martin

Which name do you like better, Colin or Martin?
We live in the midwest (I don't know if that matters).

Colin- cute name

Colin. Colin Creevey from Harry Potter!
Martin makes me think of an old man.

Martin makes you think of an old man? All babies will eventually be old, you know...

Colin

Colin all the way

[identity profile] yelya.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
You have any third choice? :)

[identity profile] ant-fugue.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Jack is great if you don't mind the "j".

Martin is a fine name.

Colin sounds like "colon". Lots of people think it's a funny-sounding name b/c of that.

Colin.. 100%

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Martin.

Colin sounds wimpy. And I think Martin is less popular.

That made me smile, I know a Collin Martin.

I like Colin better, though with two Ls.

Colin

[identity profile] alluminor.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I like both, but Colin better.

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Martin 1000%. Colin is far more popular, and overused for its merit, IMO.

[identity profile] oh-snitch.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I love both, actually. But if I HAD to choose...Martin.

[identity profile] olisko.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I have a bad association with Martin - here in Ohio Martys are middle-age borish kind of guys...

[identity profile] olisko.livejournal.com 2006-12-08 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I love George! It's very manly and elegant. It was one of our runner-ups :))

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I like both a lot.

Martin is probably a bit more cutting edge, and will get a lot of people (non namers especially) turning up their noses at it as an ugly old man name. But it's one of the names I predict will be chart climbing within a few years. Use it now and I think you'd be ahead of trends.

Colin is nice and would probably get a mostly positive response. It's a good name that isn't too common, but is still easily recognized by most people.

[identity profile] bopeepsheep.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Martin. In the UK, Colin is the old man's name; Martins are nearly all under 40.

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
They both sound kinda middle-aged to me.

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Now George doesn't sound middle aged to me at all - it sounds fine for any age! I guess it's weird how people's perceptions of these things are different depending on people they've known and such. I agree about the super-popular names thing though. Best to go for something timeless.

Oh btw, I prefer Martin to Colin.

Colin

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind either. I have a cousin called Martin, but I love Colin Meloy of The Decemberists... I don't know, you have to make them work with a good middle name.

[identity profile] xcuore.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Colin^^

[identity profile] boybychemistry.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them both, but I'd choose Martin!

[identity profile] scouty.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
colin ^^

[identity profile] suthnoli.livejournal.com 2006-11-29 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Martin

[identity profile] smileygoldfish.livejournal.com 2006-11-30 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think I like Martin more. But I have a friend who has an almost one-year-old named Martin and I have to admit when I first heard that was his name is sounded like an old name for a baby.

[identity profile] ladyjp.livejournal.com 2006-11-30 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
How are you pronouncing Colin? Is is Co-lin (Co as in Co-ed - only example I can think of! As in Collin Powell if that helps) or Caw-lin (Caw to rhyme with 'saw' more like Coll-in). In the UK it's the latter pronounciation which I prefer.

[identity profile] hotchpot.livejournal.com 2006-11-30 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Martin, by a landslide.

[identity profile] space-monkey340.livejournal.com 2006-11-30 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Colin

[identity profile] samolot.livejournal.com 2006-12-01 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Martin, for sure.
