Cadence Aria is our #1 girls name right now. I was looking through some musical terms a minute ago just as an "eh what the heck, I've got nothing better to do" something to occupy myself. I was trying to find another musical word that would be nice as a girls name.

As a disclaimer before anyone freaks out that I might name my children Cadence and Harmony or something totally "Oh geez.. you did WHAT?" I dont plan on using 2 musical names for daughters. I think it would be considerably over done, but before we name a daughter Cadence, I'd like to know if there are other musical names that I might like better. I couldnt come up with any on my own, so that's where I turn to you guys!

What musical terms/words/meanings do you think would make a lovely name for a girl? Are there any musical name combos you can come up with either using Cadence or Aria or neither? (e.g. Harmony Aria or whatever)

Thus far Melody, Harmony and Carol have been nixed by the husband. TIA!

If you don't want to "over do" the musical thing, you might want to reconsider naming one child both Cadence and Aria... Just a thought.

allegra?
lyric? (i hate this one)

you could probably just pick any random musical instruction, change the 'o' at the end to an 'a' and you might be onto something.

I like Allegra. I had a friend named that in middle school.

I like Allegra but since they slapped it on a Rx for allergies, I wouldn't be able to actually use it.

I know your husband already nixed them but I want to just say I know both a Melody and a Harmony, they are both under 5.
Do the musical names have to be musical terms or can they be instruments also?
If they can be instruments, I like:
Viola
Caja (a kind of drum)
Kora (west African harp lute)
Lyra (a Greek string instrument)
Celesta (a small piano type instrument with steel bars like a glockenspiel)

Otherwise:
Madrigal
Kyrie
Musette (a baroque dance)
Allegra
Sonata
Dolce
Blanche (the french term for a half note)

I was in a choir with a Kyrie. I think it's a great name (just make sure to pronounce it right!).

I used to baby-sit a girl named Kyrie.
I didn't like her name, I always felt like her name was Kylie and I was mispronouncing it or something.

Haha. I had never heard of Claire Annette before.
It was my parents who told me of Amanda Lynn - it was what they were going to name me before they decided on Monica instead.

Chantel / Chantelle are lovely names in themselves, but in the UK at least they have become really trashy.
