Love it, but 'Bernie' is an awful nickname, and the name itself is a bit long.

i was thinking the opposite. bernadette is a mouthful and not very elegant sounding, but i love bernie as a nickname. :P

A girl in my hall Freshman year had that name. She was an airhead and on the Santa Cruz Fraternity Life [MTV] trying to hook up with the frat boys.

Other than that I think I like it. It's strong but not in a Reagan/Ryan/WhatEverOtherGuysNameUsedOnAGirl way.

Just thinking about that, I like it more now.

Same here... I WANT to like it. I like it in principle, because I hate wishy-washy names that are just pretty sounds thrown together, and Bernadette is so strong.

But... It's just too ugly :(

ditto this (minus the part about bernadette peters, since I don't know who that is). it was on my names list for a long time, but got knocked off during the "names that fit my style but I just don't like the sound of" cut.

google her. she's a broadway legend, though most people know her from either the old "Annie" movie (she was Tim Curry's girlfriend Lil) or Disney's Cinderella (the live action musical version -- she was the stepmother)

I love it, I love Bernie as a nickname, but I have to say it makes me think of Bernadette from The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert.

Not that this is a bad association for me, at all.

But I like it, think it's charming for a little girl, classy for a young woman, mature for an adult, and... well, back to charming for an old woman. :) And Bernadette Peters is a /goddess/.

It makes me think of a white trashy type redneck fatso for some reason. Maybe Adette... or Berna would be a LITTLE bit better...

It feels very dated to me, and it reminds me of the old Motown song. I don't hate it, but I think it's a tough name to give a kid, and Bernie sucks as a nickname for a little girl.

It's my grandma's name, people call her Bern. I'm not a fan of it.

It's my mum's middle name. It's pretty boring sounding.
