A reply I made in a post before got me to thinking-- I have a nickname for nearly every person of significance in my life, and have since I was little. Nicknames intrigue me almost as much as real names, so I thought I'd share some nicknames of people in my life past and present and hopefully find some interesting stories from you all. Here they are!

My nicknames past/present:
ReRe, Ash, Ash-o-li, Andy, Ashy, Ash-head, Assy, Crashly, Dink, Ink Dink, Dinkster, Inky Dinky Do, Sis, Sister Sue, Leelee, Turdhead(that one's from my grandpa--there's a nice story about it in my personal journal around December 5th last year)

*denotes people I currently work with at a preschool, hence the childish nature of most of the nicknames... they were gained because that's what children called them, this includes Leelee and Assy under my nicknames.

Hm... I don't really have nicknames for anyone - just shorter versions of their names that I didn't even come up with! lol


My nickname is off my last name, Carnes - Carnzie. Only a couple people call me that, though.


My best friends Jennifer, Elizabeth and Tiffanie are Jen/Jenni, Liz/Lizzie and Tiff/Tiffie. My good friend Matthew is Matt. Christopher is Chris.

my best friend just dubbed me "Goplet of Fire" (derived from her nickname for me [Goppy ====> Gopples]).

i dont really give nicknames to people that i actively use. i mean i have nicknames for people when they show up on my buddy list or when i put them in my cell phone, but i dont really call them these names (Kailie=Skailie on my buddy list, Paul=Paully Pocket).

I love nicknames.

I'm Kelsi, and it's kind of hard to shorten it to an actual name unless you're going the "Kel" route, which some people do.

I HATE IT when people call me Kels.

Some people have called me Kelsu, Kelsa or Kelso (Kelsu came from a typo, the "i" and "u" are right near eachother!)... so I've basically had every vowel end my name except "e"!

Kelsanna, Kelsi-kookles/Kelsi-Kokkles (given by someone I call Brit-bobbles and Brit-Boobles :P)

Then a bunch more than have no derivation from my actual name. So I won't bother getting into them.


Sometimes people mess with the spelling even more than it's been messed with... "Kel-C" was THE thing to call me in sixth grade.

And speaking of my dog's name, I call the dog of the Jess refered to above "Shrimp Scampi". His name is "Scamp".
I'm sort of lame. I wonder if anyone else has nicknames for pets, though, which is why I brought it up.

I have nicknames for pets. My current dogs name is Dexter and he is almost always called Dexy or Dexy Doodle. Our previous dog was named Kiwi and I always called her Tweeter.

my nickname as a child was "dewey". apparently, when i wanted a drink, i'd go to the fridge and point and yell "dewey! dewey!". so it stuck for years. my dad calls me smidge and smidgelet (my name is bridget). i went through the widget/gidget/midget phase in elementary school.

i call my husband (kenneth) kenna; his little sister couldn't pronounce kenneth when she was little and said "kenna", i thought it was cute and it stuck with me.

One morning I came downstairs for breakfast and my sister went, "What's up, Sally?"

Unfortunately, it stuck.

She refers to me solely as 'Sally' now, and when I was introduced to her fiance for the first time, he thought that really was my name and was stunned to learn my name was actually something else.

The worst nickname I ever had was in my freshman year of High School (and occasionally still get called it by people I haven't seen since then). I was put in the Senior Study hall in the hour after my Algebra II class (okay, I was good at math) so I could study with other people in that class. There was a guy in there named Rick Schultz and everyone called him Schlitz. Well, when I got introduced to him I said, "Hello Rick Schlitz". Well, he asked what my name was and when I told him I was Katie Long he said "OMG - Katie Schlong!" and, well, unfortunately it stuck and everyone in that class called me that for the rest of the year. Luckily they were seniors and left after that! LOL

There were a few kids in my school with the last name Long and they were called Schlong, too. It's amazing how clever kids are, huh? lol. When I started college there were a couple of guys with unfortunate last names like Glasscock and Seaman and I sometimes wondered how the made it through middle and high school!

I called my brother Adam Aaah-dumb when we were kids, too=)

I had two friends in primary school (who I'm still friends with now) called Bianca and Fiona who were nicknamed BB and FiFi somewhere towards the end of primary school they started calling me CC and it stuck!

Strangely, neither of them are called by their nicknames much now but nearly everyone in my school knows me as CC.

It's caused to a lot of confusion since it's not my initial and I don't have two Cs in my name.

My real name is Charlotte, by the way (and not Cecelia- as many people have been lead to beleive).

The only name that strikes me as nick-namish for people I know:
Katherine- Kat, Therine, Poo, Therine-y Poo, Katarzyna, Kasia and Kittie and Kathy (these are jokes).
