My boyfriends sister's are Alexandra and Anastasia.
But they never go by their full names, they go by nicknames.
The obvious nicknames would be Alex and Ana.
But...
Anastasia --> Tasie (sounds like daisy)
Alexandra --> Lexie

So, they have a smart, "normal" name to fall back on. But go by unusual nicknames, which means that they aren't one of 5 Alex's or Anna's in their class.

I have a really hard time coming up with names that my boyfriend likes. One of the names near the top of my list is Asha, but he doesn't like it because it's too "out there", and it reminds him of a song ("brim full of Asha and a 45..."), and it sounds too much like Ashley.

Anyway, so I realised that Natasha without the Nat is Asha.
And he likes it! I think it appeals because it's following on a family naming theame, and Natasha is Russian, and he has Russian heritage, and his sister's full names are also Russian! (Don't know if you can tell but I'm pretty excited!) He likes it :D

So everyone can call her Asha and she can have Natasha to fall back on. What do you think?

Also, can you think of any other normal, sensible names that have more interesting and not so common nicknames?

I have a wonderful friend name "Natashia" (the "i" is kind of unnecessary) - I call her "Tash" as a nn, but "Asha" would work too I guess. I really think it's a beautiful name :)

I like it and I like the idea of having a 'normal' name to fall back on. Sounds pretty.

Asha from Natasha seems like a stretch to me. I see a lot of, er, stretchy nicknames lately. I guess I just don't like the name to begin with. I guess that's one of my ticks - just like some people don't like creative spellings or names that are a stretch, I don't like nicknames that are a stretch.

The obvious nickname for Anastasia to me is Stacy.
I've heard several Lexies from Alexandra.

:)

I dont see how Asha from Natasha is a stretch. It may be pronunciation differences, though. If Natasha is pronounced Nuh-TASH-uh it's not a stretch at all, but if it's Nuh-TOSH-uh it's a bit more of a stretch but not completely ridiculous.

I've seen Natasha pronounced both ways so... well anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I think Lexie is pretty common for Alexandra, though not as common as Alex. I have always liked Tay as a nn for Anastasia cause I ADORE Anastasia but i hate Anna. Tasey is cute too :)

I think the Natasha/Asha thing is really cool. Much better than Tasha or Nat!

I think Natasha is a great name and Asha is a much cooler nickname than Tash or Nat.

I have a large chance of having twins, and if I do their names will be Asher (boy) and Alexia (girl)

Even if i don't have twins, I'll use the names.

Definitely LOVE!
